i was looking at their stats over the past few years. while it is obvious teixera has a higher batting average, more rbi's and less strikeouts, it is also obvious he never walks which makes adam dunn have a higher onbase percentage, he has more homeruns, and the fact that teixera has more rbi's can almost solely be contributed to the fact that he has michael young, hank blalock, and other producers in his lineup like oh lets see alfonso soriano. but all that aside who is the better ballplayer

it seems that the general public is under the impression that adam dunn either hits homeruns or strikes out. and sure i could go for that if we just, u kno, blinded ourselves to the fact adam dunn is always amongst the leaders in walks. hows this if they swiched teams, i dont think it would even be close statistically.

oh and as far as defense, lets put teixera in leftfield and see how he fares. adam dunn is a first baseman, lets not hold the fact that someone came up with the ingenious idea to put him in leftfield against him

First off, it's nice to see someone paying attention to OBP, and not getting hung up on batting averages.

In this comparison, I'd give the edge to Teixeira. His OBP is slightly lower than Dunn's, but Teixeria has the higher slugging percentage due mainly to hitting more doubles over the past couple of seasons than Dunn. I don't care at all about RBI (too arbitrary), but their number of runs scored is very clsoe. Teixeira is also an excellent defensive first baseman, while Dunn is an adventure in left field.

Personally I like Dunn a lot, but I'd have to give Teixeira the slight nod.

LMAO all this talk about OBP and Teixera has a career OBP of .368 while Dunn has a .377. As of this writing Teixera has almost a 60 point advantage in OBP.

Walking is great but it isn't the same as getting a hit or is it better. Being in the top 5 in walks and leading the league in strike outs while being below average defensively no matter where you would play doesn't make him better. Dunn has value but your seriously crazy if you think it's more than Teixera.

Good one about other producers in his lineup though. Alfonso Soriano was not as good as he was last year when he was in Texas. Blalock had one of the worst seasons ever for a hitter (according to VORP). Young is solid but outside of him they have little else. There isn't a statistic you can throw out there that makes Dunn better than Teixera.

Mark Teixeira without a doubt. Teixeira has less walks because he puts the ball in play while Adam Dun is more patient and takes pitches, resulting in more walks and strikeouts. Hank Blalock is average at best and Young had been way below average this season up until like two weeks ago. Not only is Tex a great offensive first baseman but a great defensive player and had never missed a game in like 400+ games until last weekend. Can't wait to get some nice pitching prospects for him.

Mark Teixera

No doubt it is Mark Teixeria. Tex is a all-around player, and Dunn usually either will hit a homerun, strike out, or walk. Tex hits 30-40 HR's, hits for average, 2B, a 3B every now and then, and walks, and most importantly, doesn't strikeout 200 times a year.

This question is an insult to Mark Teixeira

He's a good all around player, solid hitter with home run power and a very good first baseman.

Dunn is the most 1-dimensional player in the game. Home run or strikeout, and is awful defensively.

ok mark has just as much power as dunn as teixeira 2 years ago had 43 jacks and 143 rbi and his walks are getting high and less k's than dunn and mark teixeira is a gold glove 1b and dunn sucks on defnese.

Mark Teixeira, hands down. Mark has the infielding skills and the bat. He can hit for power and for average. also alfonso soriano hasnt been with the rangers since 05 and has been on two different teams since then.

Texiera is by far a better all-around player, but if you're just looking for someone to pound the ball, Dunn is your man.

We can review and analyze the stats all day long, but in the end it's all subjective. In other words, it's your opinion. Mine says Teixera.
