No, 50 is as high as the number has been. But the US does own some territories such as cuba and the virgin islands that are considered one step short of being a state. I doubt the number will expand though, because there isn't more land to take over (unless youre thinking canada or mexico or somethign), and right now the representation of the people and states is pretty evenly balanced among 50 states.

No, there never were. However, there is Federal legislation on the books that allows Texans someday, if they wish, to vote to divide Texas into several states, each getting two senators in the senate.

no; every once & awhile there is talk of bringing Puerto Rico in as the 51 state, but they've voted it down every time.
