a friend of mine from Utah is sending me a money order, i live in New York state.i never had one before,so i don't know where to go,i do have a checking account

You can cash a money order anywhere you would cash a check. Your bank would be best since you wouldn't be charged a cashing fee there.

A bank or any place that sells that type of money order would probably cash it for you
