My Black Moore has one gill that has curled up a little and there is a flap of white behind it. It looks like a soft piece of skin that flows with the gill. He/she is swimming fine and is eating and pooping like a very healthy goldfish does. I put an anit-bacterial remedy for swollen gills in there just in case, but he is the only one that has this.He is in a 55 gallon tank that has adequate filtration, plus airation and weekly water changes. The ammonia level checks out good and the ph is about 7.0 and has been since I stabalized the tank 4 months ago. I've had him for about a year and he is my favorite fish out of all my tanks and I would hate to lose him. Please help.

The white flap of skin is normal. It helps to seal off the gill opening when the fish has his mouth open. Normally you can't see the flap very well, but if his gill plate is a little bent it becomes much more visible. This is most likely a genetic problem so there would be nothing you can do about it, but it probably won't get any worse.
