The husband ought to be the leader and author of love. For the woman is a weak creature, not ensued with the strength and constancy of mind; therefore they be the sooner disquieted, and they be all the more prone to all weak affections and dispositions of mind, more than men be; and lighter they be, and more vain in their fantasies and opinions. She is the weaker vessel, of a frail heart, inconstant, and with a words soon stirred to wrath.

Why?? Why would a man want that kind of responsibility in this day and time? And why would any woman want to be with that kind of man?

I just don't get it. Is it some kind of power trip that men get on? The kind that believe this garbage or the ones that beat their wives?? What exactly does that prove? B/c most men now a days know that women have equal rights with them (that was voted on a few decades ago by the way) and those men look at the other's like they are CRAZY!!

GET A LIFE

Nope, not in the slightest.
My husband and I are equally important in our marraige.
If a woman is such a weak vessel, then how do we find the strength to deal with so many years of oppression and try to rise from it? If woman is so weak, how can she go through the agony of childbirth and still love her child?
If woman is so weak, how are they able to stand by their men despite some of the terrible things that have been done to them?
Women have enormous strength of mind and heart and it's proven by how we never give up the struggle to be not behind the men of this world but by their side when we could be in front, but we're strong enough in that we don't need to walk all over men, but stand right beside them.

The wife if the giver of life. The fountain of which all you can hope for flows from. If the woman is weak, frail as you describe, I think you are afraid of how strong she really is. Fear shows in your words as they are condescending in their nature.

You seem to enjoy antiquated literature. How uplifting.

Please read further to fully understand that those ridiculous words responded to women regaining their identities in a white, male driven society. You can also find this type of writing in previous centuries but you may become alarmed to know that usually even woman wrote this blather so as to not upset the status quot. Please see Mrs. Beaton. She would have had a good laugh reading your query.

It's an equal and joint effort to complete the whole picture.
Where the man fall short, the woman supports and visa versa.
