1st DO NOT USE ALCOHOL TO CLEAN A PIERCING!
It dries your piercing out making it much harder to heal! Instead use plain antibacterial soap and/or sea salt water to clean your ear. Use the soap 2-3 times a day for the first month. Then depending on how well it's healing you may cut that down. Also if it starts to swell and get irritated sea salt works wonders. Take a teaspoon sea salt to one cup hot water and hold it to your ear for 10 min. This helps promote healing and gets all the crap outta the piercing.
2nd you should definitely leave the piercing in your ear and just spin it around while cleaning (but dont force it) and make sure to rinse it out real good. If you're doing sea salt then dont move the piercing. Taking it out and putting it back in will only irritate your piercing and can then possibly form keltoids. You should not be taking the jewelry out until it is fully healed (meaning no crusties and you can move it easily).
3rd the healing process greatly varies depending on how your body reacts. Can take as little as 3 months up to almost a year. Just take good care of it and stop using alcohol and you should be fine.
Any more questions feel free to email me!

You should not take it out to clean it. It needs to remain in for 6 to 8 weeks before you change the earring or take it out. It takes cartilage a long time to heal but it also depends on how you got it peirced (with a needle at a piercing parlor or with a earring gun at a place like Claire's Acessories). Wherever you got it done, they should have given you instructions on how long to keep it in. Your best bet would be to call them and ask. Cartilage get infected very easily but it really depends on your own body's personal reaction. I had my cartilage peirced in 3 places and the never once got infected. My husband has his pirced and took really good care of it but his swelled up and got so infected he had to remove it after a few months.

It takes up to 6 months for some piercings to heal. You should have been givien written instructions where you got it done at. First, do not remove it. Clean it in place. You should not rotate the stud or rings thru the ear as this causes bacteria to go directly into your system. If in doubt, contact a reputable piercing shop and ask them what the recomend.

I think you're supposed to leave it in so it'll heal better..
Didn't they tell you that when you got it done?
It takes longer than a lobe piercing to heal..I'm not sure how much longer though.

around 4 months usually to heal.
with it in.

to make it heal faster use hot salt water. you might need to pull your hair back and turn your head in unnatural, funny positions, but it works!
