We should have started worrying about this about 20 years ago. At this point most younger people haven't any idea of what fascism is... and that's why a meaningless phrase like Islamo-Fascist can get used and no one blinks.
Fascism is government that is run by corporate interests. In Germany it was Krupp, the steel company and the war machine... In America it's the oil companies and the war machine.
America has been courting a kind of 'soft' fascism for years. But with the advent of the 'immigrant crisis' the press has frothed up the public to a panic, and it is not unlikely that people will end up being sent to camps in the fairly near future. The German people had the Jews, the students, the homosexuals that threatened them enough to permit Hitler's rise; we seem to suddenly have the mexicans; and of course any one who'se not a blood red GOP, and certainly the homosexuals --we're being taught to hate the same way, and we seem to love it; just read through answers on a daily basis; the young people are particularly frightening: Nazi youth are an important component of setting up a fascist state...
Certainly our elections are now a joke. That was true even before the 2000 fiasco.
Truth is, Americans crave a dictator, and can't really see the need for representative democracy anymore, since it distracts them from their idle games and celebrity fixations.
We're about hip deep in fascism right now... and the water is only getting deeper.

It was already time back when President Eisenhower warned us of the growing danger of the military-industrial complex.
We're more than a bit behind as far as worrying about this. Nobody payed attention to Eisenhower, and the military-industrial complex controls not only our government, but our culture. As one person already said, we worship all things military. People seem to think we're only number 1 if our military is number 1 with the most destructive potential.
Our literacy level is appalling. Our education system is a total failure. We have more people in prison than any other country on earth. We have huge numbers of poor people living in third-world conditions. We have a government that cant be bothered to react for three days after a gigantic hurricane hits a major city.
We have a Congress which is so close to being comatose its not even funny. We have an executive branch drunk with power. And we have scandal after scandal, and no-one seems to care. As long as we're still top-notch in destructive ability, we're number 1.
Its ridiculous! We have so many nuclear weapons we could nuke the entire world several times over!! Why do we need to have all these? Who the blue f*ck are we so afraid of? But no-one wants to ask questions like that. We'd rather crucify Don Imus in the public square than confront the infinitely more dangerous situation that we're living in.

Yes, But maybe we should have been worrying about it a long time ago, as well. I think the danger actually began when the Federal Reserve fraud was allowed to be perpetrated, and the income tax also! It has been building momentum ever since. I think that the doody may hit the fan at some point in the not so distant future! It is time for the masses to wake up! *sm*

Only if you have no real idea what Fascism is about and are intending a foolish political statement that only other equally ignorant people will consider clever or noteworthy.
If the United States were anything at all like a Fascist state then we'd both be rounded up and either languishing in a concentration camp or hanging from meat hooks by piano wire.
I have utterly no use for the present administration and, because in r/l I am actually known to many of the members of this administration, I can assure you they have absolutely no use for me. One of them publicly described me as "the anti-Christ" many years ago. Even with that I don't think they are "fascists", just ill informed, misguided and addled by too much religion.
Using the sort of hyperbole that describes either Bush as a Fascist or Clinton as a Communist is exactly what is wrong with politics in America today.
Its become the norm to the detriment of us all.
Enough already! Grow up, get a grip, and get to work to actually make some sort of useful contribution to the political debate.
EDIT: By the way, Fascism is NOT a government ruled by corporations. The term "the corporate state" which is used by Fascists to describe their system is meant to suggest a country which is run like a corporation not one run BY corporations. Under Fascism business is subservient to the State not the other way around.
Another response suggests that its the "aristocrats" who rule a Fascist state. Again, historically, the leading Fascists and the bulk of Fascist supporters were not aristocrats or members of the upper class but lower middle class, shop keeprs, government functionaries, and other members of what Vance Packard would call the "limted success" class.

Long overdue unfortunately. Americans have always been partial to fascism, because it is usually good for business. We have already become a shocking militarisitic society. Our non-stop worship of all things military is really unseemly for a democracy constructed on the notion of citizen soldiers.
Why do we have a fly over for every major sporting event. What the heck is up with that. I expect that nonsense from the North Koreans, but we are Americans. We are more than the fineset military in the world. We are citizens first and citizen soldiers only as necessary.

No, I don't think so. The U.S. has a 2 party system. Both parties are polar opposites of each other most of the time. They have to compromise with each other, usually they wind up somewhere in the middle. Thus the Totalitarian extremes of Fascism on the Right & Socialism on the Left hopefully will never surface.

Communism to the Left of us, Fascism to the Right! Here we are - stuck in the middle again!
This old view of political systems is FALSE!
Tyranny is Tyranny
A CORRECT view is anarchy (no government at all) at one extreme and TOTAL CONTROL or Dictatorship at the other extreme.
The only differences in tyrannies are their procedures.
Our Founding Fathers gave us a great form of LIMITED Government and attempted to secure it with the Constitution.
All of our elected officials swear an Oath of Office to uphold the Constitution.
OH HOW THEY MUST HATE THAT CONSTITUTION!
It prevents those elitist despots from ruling us as they wish.
It doesn't matter if they are Socialists, Marxist, or Fascists. They just want POWER.
It is up to us to keep them in the MIDDLE with limited Government.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

We most definitely need to worry about fascism here - and moreover we need to begin to do something about it. Those people who can should deal with the people in power to dampen their influence. Also, adults, parents and schools must teach children to recognize the signs of creeping fascism, just as lately schools teach students to recognize the subtle messages in commercial advertisements. There's a lot of work to be done.
