From my viewpoint as a white Celtic Pagan, Muslims do integrate - my batting partner in the cricket match I will be playing in on Sunday is one Mohammed Khan, and we've played cricket together for five years. Mr Khan will not eat pig meat, in the same way that Mr Marawaha will not eat beef (he is Hindu). Mr Blake will not eat any meat at all - he is a vegetarian. He opens the bowling along with Mr Marawaha. Mr Goldfarb keeps wicket, will not eat pig meat, and likes his beef sandwiches to be made without butter. So, our pub cricket team has a Moslem, a Hindu, a Pagan and a Jew and we all socialise. Mr Khan enjoys a beer after the match, and then goes into the changing room, puts down his prayer-mat, and makes amends with his God in his own good way. What is wrong with this?
People do tend to live within their own communities. How many bricklayers do I see at the monthly meetings of my town's Guild of Chefs? How many Roman Catholics pay a guest visit to the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovas Witnesses - same God, but different strokes.
Muslims have a distinct culture - a culture very much under threat because of the actions of their own ilk, so they will bond together even more if people who are not of their ilk, and who are not prepared to understand differences between people, condemn the entire lot of them to contumely because of the actions of a small minority.
Live, and let live. What the Muslims are now, in terms of fear, the |rish were ten years ago.Inventing a threat does not create a solution, and falsely magnifying a threat makes the solution, if one is needed, dissolve into rank prejudice.

It's that auld chestnut again 'culture'. They come form a patriacle society where the head of the family is the man , chief-of-the-tribe (allegedly!) I meet a lot of muslims in my job and I have found out that the women are not allowed to shake a persons hand when first meeting them , which is strange to us. Women are 'down-trodden' in our eyes , having to wear the veil , but it's their culture and who are we to change that? They don't mix with other members of society because their religion doesn't allow it. Sikhs are very much different and more open and seem more friendlier to us. We must blame the National Media for all this nonsense about Muslim Radicals...... Muslims are very much family orientated , the same as us... make your own mind up and stop buying these 'Red Top Rags'.. it is they that are firing up racism.

I don't drink and if anyone invited me to the pub I'd say no because I can't stand the smell of stale booze or cigs. Maybe if you invited a 'Muzlum' somewhere else with a less overbearing atmosphere, he'd be happy to go.

Firstewall, you probably insulted him cause Muslims do not drink alcohol for relgious reasons. Than learn to spell right.
Muzlim is wrong it's Muslims
ere it must read here
socialise = socialize
otherwise the question goes backwards than like why is it that Baptists or Christians only associate with themselves?
Well it's human nature to stick with those who are from the same background.
Like German's stick with German's
Jew's tick with Jews. etc. etc. Does this explain it.

mabey he didn't know, he may have assumed he would be pressured into drinking and didn't want to put himself in that position.(not that making assumptions is okay). I suggest you invite him to a place with a non-alcoholic environment like a coffee shop or some joint for lunch, and mabey even mention he would not have to drink. If he still refuses, then you have every right to be angry.

Firstly it' is against their beliefs to drink, to some they prefer not to be around alcohol at all.
Secondly alot of people from different cultures, ethnic groups, and religions feel more comfortable , safer, and accepted amogst what is familar.
There is so much in the media, and on the net that espouses negativity towards others, that what we have at the moment, is a climate of misunderstaning, fear, racism, resentment, anger and frustration,that people feel safer sticking to what they know.

Devout muslems also don't drink (and some take that as far as not being involved in commerce that includes alchohol). That may be why he declined your offer.
