I have a lot of suggestions but have to say that it depends on who you are and what you're looking for...best bet...search on www.metromix.com . It's a great site even for visitors and townies alike. I'm not sure where the party is but you should check out Millennium Park (free) and the Art Institute for sure. The Chicago Architecture Foundation is just off Michigan Ave and they give great walking, bus, and boat tours. Lincoln Park Zoo is also free and takes you away from the bustle of the Loop for a while. The Museum of Science and Industry rocks. As a Cubs fan, if you want to get a sense of true Chicagoans, I would say go to a Sox game (as painful as it is for me to say that). Either way, you'll have a good time though. There's nothing like Wrigley Field - for better or for worse. It's touristy, yes, but the Sears Tower is still very cool if you haven't been there. Also, I would check out some of the "ethnic" (I hate that label) neighborhoods like Pilsen, Chinatown, Greektown, etc. if you have access to a car or are willing to brave the L...which you should :) Great shopping on Michigan Avenue...The Field Museum is incredible and it's right on the lake. You can learn and then go outside and lay on the grass.
Some of the 'burbs are great too. Oak Park and Evanston are pretty swanky places and easily accessible by L.
That's all I got for now...you can e-mail me if you have any questions. Have fun! Chicago's a fantastic city. I grew up here and want to move someday but leaving this city is HARD.

I would go to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, and then have some dinner at Ditka's restaurant. Also Lake Michigan is right there so go check that out too.
