Do you generally base your decisions on what the media presents?

Curiously, all news outlets are biased in some way. I often wonder if people rely on them for info?

No i try not to base my decisions on the mass media
i read different newspapers all the time to try and get a balance
to be honest i think forums like this represent public opinion more than newpapers ever could

Good question.

It's almost impossible for one reporter to get all the facts right. That's a good reason for us to utilize multiple news sources, like radio, internet, newspaper.

TV news is the most sensationalistic source, the least substantial source. That's why I haven't watched TV news in a couple decades.

I don't think mainstream media is liberal, because why would they want to alienate half the viewers in the country who are conservative? It doesn't make sense.

But the mainstream media will push unimportant stories (like Anna Nicole Smith), and will push scary-sounding stories (like only telling of soldiers killed in Iraq without mentioning the good things soldiers accomplish in Iraq), because they want more viewers. They don't care about what's important, and they don't care about truth.

We just assume mainstream media cares about what's important and what's true. People should wise up.

Far too many people are influenced by media, especially TV. Best thing one can do is get rid of their TV. They will find that a lot of stress will go out of their lives.

I don't but I know many people who do. I remember when Katie Couric first came on CBS, her slogan was that her team will interpret the news for you so you don't have to read anything into it.
