Why do they seek to insult it, and shut it down. Can liberals compete in the arena of ideas? Why don't they have a "liberal" talk radio?

halfshaft. I agree, its nonsense for talk radio to claim they are the little guy. It may have been true 15 years ago but today there is clearly a balance in the news.

Talk Radio whether it's liberal or conservative is just a vehicle for politicians to push the issues their lobbyists want pushed. Why don’t people see that? Your favorite talk radio personality is taking their cues from a political agenda. That political agenda is being shaped by money and money only.

It gets to a point where people are rooting for a party instead of actually making sense with any issues. But, it’s a free country. Some people have no problem letting the fat cat get fat.

It's not a threat to liberal ideas - the ideas themselves are strong enough to have commanded a large following for generations now. It's a threat to some who identify as 'liberal' but didn't come by that identification in an examined way. They just jumped on the bandwagon and accept the liberal agenda on faith. Any movement has a lot of such people, and they're usually the loudest - and least coherent - voices to be heard. They just can't handle having thier dogma questioned, let alone shot down.

Liberal dogma is respected in most of the media, so, when it's unsupported (as in FOX news) or outright attacked (as with talk radio), the less thoughtful liberal reacts with anger, and wants to shut down the offending media outlet.

In the arena of ideas it is common for people to attack that which they don't agree with in general. Liberals attack talk radio and Fox News. Conservatives attack all other media. It is really tired old rhetoric. What amazes me is how many people want to complain about media and never seem to realize that by tuning in they are helping keep it on the air. For those who claim they don't listen, but yet still complain about the content, well that's just dishonest rhetoric because how do you know it's propaganda if you are not listening to it. By the way, I am a conservative and most talk radio annoys me to no end. I have my own opinions, I don't need the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity to tell me what to think. If I want news, I tune into a news program. Talk radio is not news, it is opinion wrapped in an unhealthy dose of partisanship.

Because the liberals now cannot have their own way !!!!!!! Hilarious isn't it? Poor babies -- they now have folks who can give US the other side of things. What a huge blessing is conservative talk radio.......othewise how would WE have any support of our view on things? Otherwise, how could we have the ability to make our thoughts known. Liberals can no longer control those who choose another way. Thank GOD for conservative radio and FOX NEWS TV.

Because the wannabe cons that listen to it need to told the party line over and over until they finally believe it. If someone does not tell them what to think, they are lost. Most of the conservatives i know,(real, small government, anti-spending) hate Rush and Hannity and all of the hate spewing talk radio hosts. But some need that direction to know what to think on the issues.

And most of the answers above prove my point. Anyone that hateful of other ideas and groups is not only a fool, but by definition cannot be a conservative either.

its not that conservative radio is a threat- but having all stations owned by conservatives who refuse to hire liberals is a problem. you can't have a radio show without a station to host it.

It isn't a threat to liberal ideas. What it is is a means of spreading lies and hate. Thanks to right-wing talk radio, many people now believe that it's true that liberals support the terrorists who hate us, want to take all the money from working people and give it to people who don't even want to work, want to do away with all religion in the country, want to lets gays be the only ones allowed to marry, etc etc. We wouldn't have a problem if the conservatives just kept to rational, factual discourse, but that is pretty rare on talk radio.

I didn't know that this was the case. Could you give some evidence of "liberals" being "threatened" by conservative radio?

Thanks!
