I don't think anyone knows for sure.
I choose to believe that life created the physical universe, the physical cannot create life.
If the universe is made up of matter, energy, and space. Time is important in a physical universe, and may have no purpose outside of a physical universe, therefore time may not exist outside of the physical universe. So that spark of life that is YOU can neither be created or destroyed. It is separate from the physical.
When you leave the physical body, you may also leave the physical universe - but that may be a choice rather than an obligation.
What is next? Why don't YOU choose.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to watch your karma.

It all depends on your religion and/or faith and background and what part of the world you were raised, some religion believe in life after death, some don't, other faiths see life as the market place. You take your ware and when you are done selling there is no need to hang around you leave, therefore, once you die you are buried within 24 hours and that is it. There is also something or words and you say prior to your final hour and once that is said you can die and your soul is free. Why is it that when we die we ask the Dear Lord and help and keep their sole. We are made from the earth and life was breath into us. When we die we return to earth, thus earth-to-earth and the sole is taken back by your maker. We are on earth for a reason and a purpose, find your purpose and live as if today is your last, for life is not guaranteed. No one has come back to tell us. Do the right thing as you live and don't worry what happens life after death. By asking this question, I ask you, are you afraid to die and if we have the answers will it change who you are? Don't worry, be happy pass on the good deed, help people, be nice to others.

Well, one of two things happen when we die. We either go to Heaven or Hell. This is no in between. First off lets start from the beginning, God existed and nothing else did. Then God created the world and it was perfect with no sin. Then he created Man and Woman. There they messed up and brought sin in the world. Christ can not be a part of sin, but he brought a way to bring forgivness. This is forgivness can only be given through the sacrifice of blood through a lamb. (this was before Christ birth). So man lived like this for around 4,000 years. Then God decided he would give his son as a ONE time sacrafise. So Christ died on a cross for us. So that when we die we can ask forgiveness and be forgiven and go to Heaven. If we do not ask forgivness we go to Hell its that simple

Well if the Lord was your Shepard you shall not want, He maketh you to lie down in green pastures, He will restore your soul, Yea though you walk through the Valley of the shadow of Death ,If You trusted and Thank and believed that Jesus was the Son of God, Then you shall fear no evil in death for His Rod and staff shall comfort you through out the days and when you take that walk through the shadow of death. I don't fear death ,Because the Lord is my Shepard, And the wisdom of His words has prepared me for what you call death I call it passing, Because I will be in Heaven when the Judgment comes, But death consumes sinners, But ,death to the ones who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, Will have everlasting Life, Free of sin and sorrow, and sickness , and Fear, and Death, And hate, and hunger, and diseases, and rape, and where right from wrong is know, and Love and joy and peace is in Heaven, Depends own ones self what happens when ones die,s but we all will walk through the valley of the shadow of death, with or with out Jesus, But with Jesus we will have no fears, but with out Him all should fear that walk and we all have to take it some day Death to me is what makes you happy and who makes you happy, it will be in heaven any thing that is of good and brings happiness will be in heaven....God bless All

Nothing. We die, and that's it. If someone tells you anything other than that, they're either lying to you or to themselves.
