My mother is in her late 70's, and since she fell last August and broke her hip, she is running me ragged either turning up the air conditioning (so it will go off) because she's cold or turning it down (to come on) because she's too hot. This goes on about every 10-15 minutes. She tells me she's "too old for hot flashes."

she may have a problem with her thyroid. Thyroid problems can make you have something similar to hot flashes. I don't think should would have hot flashes at her age, especially if she hasn't been having them all along. That's probably something that should be checked out by the dr.

At 70 I have EXTREME diaphoresis ANYTIME I do any thing i.e. outside just sweeping sidewalk, going to mailbox, cooking or being in heat, sleep with fan....daily I am a dripping (literally) mess & must wear headband to keep sweat from eyes....Will have thyroid checked again no issues before? Refuse HRT afraid of side effects.

Trust me, they can. I am still having periodic hot flashes at age 70. They, however, are not the same as menopausal hot flashes. You can tell the difference but they are still uncomfortable.

Oh yes she could still be having hot flashes....Did you hear the news about the lady who was in her 60's having a baby last week? Anything is possible anymore.

I' m 70. I don't have thyroids. I do take synthroid 0.1mg I still have hot flashes.

Yes they can...I am 75 and have severe night sweats and hot flashes. I quit the HRT because it does not help.
