Because they are making excuses and hoping you will buy into their excuse. And they are trying to rationalize their own behavior to themselves.

Well, it is a short and sweet variation of the real thing which might have went something like this: "Once upon a time, I was out at a club and had a few too many when this really HOT guy walked up to me and bought me another drink. I was already at number four, so I figured, "what was one more?" When we stood up from the bar to dance, and my knees buckled, he then decided that I was not only in no condition to dance, but certainly no condition to drive. I willingly agreed and appointed him my "designated driver." How was I supposed to know he was going to take me home with him? I mean, just because we were tongue-locked for 3 hours in the back of his astrovan and somehow my bra was removed in the process. Am I really all to blame? We naturally decided that kissing would be much better in his apartment than in the back seat of his filthy car, so we went into his apartment, aka, bachelor pad and proceeded to have a nightcap. (I think that's what he called it...) anyway, it just happened...what can I say? It was a one night stand... because I cannot end up with this guy. He is not even my type! Hahaha!

It does "just happen". Haven't you ever been in the heat of the moment, protection conveniently in hand of course and just f*cked for hours on end with a naughty stranger because it made you feel good?

If the partners are both willing and protection is used, have a ball (or two... ahem)!

These aren't every night occurrences I'm referring to, but "once in a while, it just happens."

A little advice: If you're actually interested in pursuing this potential one-night stand partner for a long term relationship, then don't go to bed with them the first night! It's just common sense.

What people?
I think they claim, "It just happened" because they didn't PLAN on having a one night stand.

Most of the time when you go out you don't expect to meet someone and jump into bed with them. When you meet someone whom you are attracted too, hormones fly through the body and combine that with alcohol it makes a deadly combination of throwing caution in the wind. The one night stands can be a way of getting frustrations out or simply people are animals and just have animal urges.

Because that's there way of dealing with it. It's a great excuse for lack of control or scratching an itch. Some people do it.. some don't. I've learned it's best not to not care. Sometimes they have some sort of logic behind it.. ie.. bad relationship and they're trying to cope. Others.. it's just a past time!

people have one night stand because they attracted to the other person at first but after they did it they find out that there were no chemistry so they didn't want to do it again.

Heck, my ex-wife claimed 60 m.p.h. winds stripped off her clothes, she tripped, twisted her ankle, landed on her back and a complete stranger stumbled right on top of her. "It just happened" sounds so much easier.

That excuse makes sense if you utterly and completely drunk to the point where you black out and don't remember anything but if you're always sober(like me) no one will believe you.
