Five Billions of years ago, long before the Earth had any form at all, there were trillions of 'dirty little snowballs' and bigger and bigger ones colliding together. This all took place when our Sun was still a hungry accreting 'brown drawf sized star' in the center of the planetary nebula, where it competed with might Jupiter for MASS! Now the Solar System was way back then, mostly filled with what are today called Kuiper Belt objects, and Oort Cloud objects. "And the Earth was without FORM and VOID' and darkness was on the FACE of the DEEP(abyss)" Genesis 1:1,2 Was darkness on the face of the planetary nebula, filled with comet -like bodies floating in the super cold of the planetary nebula??? Which would eventually become our Solar System, and the area where the Earth would eventually take shape into a planet??? But why use snow covered rocks and rocks containing mostly water ice???

Perhaps it is more fun to throw a snowball than it is to throw a rock?

Actually, during this period, when the Earth wasn't really formed, whatever was attracted to it by the laws of gravity, happenstance, and creative design was being thrown together. Some of those substances were these "dirty snowballs" of comets. Some were what we'd now call meteorites of every shape and dimension imaginable. Some of the objects may have been other "masses" that had the then formin Earth not gotten hold of, might have become planets on their own. We, obviously, can't know precisely what went into the formation of the Earth.
We sure know that there was a lot of iron, good portions of silica, and apparently pretty good chunks of every one of the 114 currently known elements, and perhaps thousands of compounds.
I imagine God would use whatever tools he had at hand to create whatever he wanted. If he had dirty snowballs, he'd add them to the mix.
What would you use to create a planet with if you were going to build one in some nearby nebula? I'm guessing you'd use the materials there, and help them to coalesce around a point that would lead to a balanced world capable of supporting the bodies of the Spirits you had created to inhabit them.
If you were God, looking down on the world today, and you wanted to get the people's attention, would you create a whole new type of creature to deliver that message, or would you use one of the fouled-up, foolish, regular humans? Well, history tells us you'd call one of the humans as your prophet. Because, like it or not--they are the best ones to convey the message to everyone else.

According to Christians, the world is only 10,000 years old, so they don't believe in comets or asteroids hitting the earth every few hundred million years. They don't believe in ecosystems, animals are put on the earth by God, 2 at a time, for no apparent reasons. Christians don't believe in evidence, only what has been written in the bible. Christians don't believe the earth was once wiped out. In fact, they believe Adam and Eve lived with dinosaurs. If there was an ice age, humans wouldn't have survived through it. Yes, according to christians, we are at the mercy of god's will.

why does a bear $h!t in the woods?

plus a bunch of comets colliding together and becoming bigger and bigger until earth was formed is untrue. comets hitting earth continuesly over time and having an impact in some way on it, however, IS true (bringing water to the planet for example...among other building blocks of life). earth has been here since the solar system formed...along with every other planet. the natural processes that go on within a galaxy have shaped it into what it is today

I don't have a problem with God setting all the evolutionary processes in motion and using the materials at hand. After all, I believe He made them, so He had a right to put them to use. You could ask Him. I think He knew that water was essential for life. I think He had the recipe because He wrote the recipe.

But, that aside, I don't appreciate preachy commentary from the Bible as if it were part of science. The writers of the Books of the Bible were not scientists in any similar sense.

So, let's agree to refrain from validating Biblical stories of Creation by suggesting that the early writers knew science. Because, if you insist on doing so, then lets investigate why there was more than one "Eve." Lets start with "Lilith", why don't we? The Book of Zorah didn't make the Biblical cut because it was viewed as too radical, too barbaric and inconsistent with the first authors' and "publicists'" views.

Well, it wasn't just cometary matter. There was a lot of gas and dust and meteoroids. It's a bit difficult to understand what you are looking for here. If you believe in the biblical creation and God did it all, then you must also be aware that God's reasons are his own and we can't ask.
The solar system formed according to the materials and forces that were available at that time. That's all.

because if rocks were used instead of comets, then life on earth wouldn't exist. and it's not like God was chillin up in space with his legs crossed pondering "hmm, what should i throw?" It's just the way it was. be glad that there were balls of ice rather than rocks or else you would just be some chunk of rock instead of the human being you are. Rocks can't get on a computer and ask stupid questions. you should be glad you can.

Genesus 1:1,2 wasn't written by people with anything close to modern day knowledge of astronomy. It wasn't written by people with a hotline to God because he/it is a fictional entity.

If you wish to find an explanation for the presence of water in the early solar system, read up on nuclear physics to see how nuclear processes in stars could have lead to the heavier elements and subsequent molecules existing.

There is no need to invent a god to explain water.

This section has more to do with Science than Religion wrong category

Now see if I went into the Religion and Spirituality section and posted a scientific question I would be violated and the question would be deleted.
