I want to make the ultimate 80's music compilation. I was wondering if there are any songs that NEED to be on there for it to be complete.

That's asking quite a bit. There were a lot of bands during the 80's. Steve Miller, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Bad Co., Joe Satriani...The list is enormous and to try to give credit to every good band or song is going to take a lot of time.
Good luck.

Bon Jovi, "Never Say Good-bye" and Dexie's Midnight Runner's "Come on Eileen" are two songs that scream '80s to me. "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" is another.
