It has been a while since I had fish but I do know that you are not sopose to use cleaners like that in the bowl...it kills them, even if you rinse really well. Pet stores sell scrub pads to clean the algi off the tank. Thats all you use besides water and a bunch of paper towels. Before putting your fish back in the tank after cleaning you should always do a pH test and there is another one that I cant think of but if you ask at a pet store they will tell you.
Sorry that happened to you!

you NEVER clean the tank with soap or any other cleaners not approved for fish
Every petstore like petsmart has a special cleaner for tanks, and they also have scrubbers to clean the algue.
1. Always wash the stones thorough with water, because all the dust will go right into your tank if you don't
2. Wash your pump very thorough and wash your carbon filter or cartridge ( depending on what pump you have), also to get the dust out of it.
3. Fill up your tank with freshwater (no tapwater for tropical warmwater fish) and put in "Aquasafe" as directed on the bottle. it is for setup and waterchange
4. Wait about 2 hours and test your water, if the levels are ok, you can put your fish into your tank.
5. Keep your tank away from the sun, causes algue to grow
6. Put in real plants for oxygen help and it also keeps the water a little bit clearer
7. Put a heater in your tank if you're planning on keeping tropical fish, and keep the temperature about 76- 82
8. Put once a week Easy balance as directed in your tank, it cuts down on waterchanges and keeps the fish happy and healthy
9. If your water gets really cloudy once in a while, just put a Water Clarifier in as directed, it takes about 24 hours for the water to clear up

I haven't done a water change I think in about 4 months, I only fill up the water of the tank every 3 weeks that dissappears, and I replace my filters regularly about every 3-4 weeks as well.

1-The dust is of the stones,
2- you didnt cycle the tank
3- if it was tropical fish you probibly didn put it at the right temp
4- the only thing you use to clean the tank out with is water. NOT SOAP
So theres 4 reasons why they died
