No I don't care what "pain" they are put through.
They would wipe out an entire school full of little children and not think twice. They would send their own wives and children into buildings with bombs strapped to their chest.
I don't care one bit about their well being.
Lets really focus on what constitutes "torture" it's not hooking up ends of batteries to genitals of men and boys and turning on the power (something Al Qaeda does still to this day in... GASP.... IRAQ to..... IRAQIS and most likely our troops they capture) It's sleep deprivation, water boarding, and things that are neither cruel nor inhumane.
I do however care about the treatment that our soliders in Gitmo are given. Having bodily fluids thrown at them and spit upon by these terrorists. That's what bothers me not the way terrorists are treated.

WOW Did anyone even mention the Geneva Convention?
I have issues with the US system but like that no one is really ever protected by a piece of paper.
I had the displeasure of being a part of the system in Hawaii. All over a old mans will and money. It was dismissed yet what I endured no human should have been subjected to. Beatings included. Guards in the loop, missing reports. Detained for a whole week in lock up. No soap, just a toilet and paper. Now I can tell u a hundred uses and games for TP.
This is how we treat inmates in the United States. I had no lawyer, so 8 weeks was standard as u wait for the public pretender.
Can u imagine how suspected terrorists are treated? Add military arrogance (like the Correction Officers, most female in my case) how they react? It is deplorable. But is is real life. POW in other countries get beheaded. A water torture is minor. It is all sick and outta whack. The Generals have been fired and somewhere accountability should come into play. But these are systems in place for years. People tend to look with a blind eye. I followed all the paperwork, complained to the Ombudsman and my friend, Deputy Director of Public Defense, former FBI Director. They all said we are so sorry. Too many chiefs no Indians. Too many offices to keep in line.
Like Paris Hilton, Sheriff Baca let her out over a hunger strike? The Judge sends her back. NO co-ordination whats so ever.
Yes, I care. I am not surprised at all.

Let me see. Let's say I'm the next president of the US. I'm a liberal who has as much disrespect for the rule of law as President Bush. I declare "happily conservative" an enemy combatent and ship her to some secret rendition site where my commie friends can torture her till she sees the errors of her ways. I hope I've made my point. I don't care about legitmately convicted terrorists. I do care about the rule of law and about the effect that using torture has on my country and its ability to be a moral leader. When we start acting like the enemy, we become the enemy. When we lose respect for the rights of even the most evil person, we also lose the respect of those teetering on the fence. If conservative democracy ACTS no different than dictators it is no different than dictators and has no more reason to expect support than dictators do. If liberal democracy does not respect human rights it cannot expect those who naturally question respect for human rights to grudgingly behave in a way different from their tendencies. So I care if terrorists are tortured because I respect myself and the democratic standards I am willing to die for and if necessary be tortured for. If I'm torturing my enemies, than my enemies torturing me will have no value in the battle for the hearts and minds of the world. The pen may be mightier than the swort, but only when the hand that uses the pen and the sword uses both consistently. To put it another way, The pen is mightier than the sword, but actions speak louder than words.

Not if they have information we need from them, for our countries security, and they are unwilling to give that information up.
Otherwise, I see no need for torture to anyone. Doing so, would only be to enjoy another person's suffering. That is DEAD wrong to me. I don't want to be like the terrorists, nor my country, nor my fellow countrymen, and women. We are NOT the same as they, and I pray we never will be. If not us, then who will keep honor alive, and existing for our children? Values, and honor come first. We must remember that, no matter how sad, or angry we get at these murdering devils. We must at all times be better than they are. I could not live with myself, if I became one of them.
God Bless America, and her values. We are NOT terrorists.

It has to do with the fact of knowing for sure that they ARE terrorists... When you don't have a trial and can't defend yourself because you don't know the evidence against you, or what you're being charged with, how can you be charged with being a terrorist? Even pedophiles, murders and other vile human beings get those rights too. We're not some barbaric society that just locks away people we're suspicious of.
In addition, people who are being tortured usually give false info in order to stop being tortured! Also, in Kuwait, Vietnam, etc., many soldiers surrendered to the U.S. because they knew they would be treated fairly - and thus, more of our soldiers lives were saved. In addition to THAT, people are turning in others for the reward money! Lord, learn history and read an effing newspaper!
Why do you want to lower the U.S. to their standards of human rights?

I care a lot. I know they are being tortured here and there by the US, of course this shows the high and noble morals, ethics and respection of human beingsthat the US has. For me, torture is an act done by scoundrels. I'm an Arab, I swear that if I had Bush tied to an electric chair I won't torture him for a second, I don't think he deserve torture, death is better.

Your attitude, and the attitude of many respondents is disheartening. The United States is a nobler place than any other country on earth. Your willingness to torture first and ask questions later is appalling. The United States should never be known as a place that condones torture. Ask John McCain.
Hitler got started this way. After all, he first persuaded his nation to merely hate jews. Then he took their property and finally their lives. Go down this path and you will become more than merely conservative, you will become evil.
Yes, go ahead, pat yourselves on the back and show me how wrong I am by giving me the thumbs down. Your values do NOT represent those of the United States of America. God Bless America!
Regards.
