I have the I/OMagic GigaBank 250 mb external hard drive and it has been working great since I first purchased it (roughly 6 months ago), but just recently, it does not even power on. I double check the chords and outlets to see if anything is loose but unfortunately, nothing is wrong. I try different sockets in different rooms and still nothing. What is wrong? What should I do?

you should call their support line. sounds like the power supply in the external drive is dead.

When you go to buy a new one, consider this:

If you purchase an external housing and supply your own hard drive; if something goes faulty with the unit, your data is still there on the drive. That drive can be read from your next housing, or another PC.

You would still have your data.

Sorry, but your GigaBank sounds like toast.

Hmmm..

If it is still under warranty, you are going to want to contact I/Omagic. There should be details in the packaging on how to contact them. You could also try a google search.

If it is NOT under warranty, the enclosure has failed and you could try disassembling the enclosure and installing the drives in a new enclosure. Or you could even simply install them inside your computer as they are most likely just your standard IDE drives.

If it is out of warranty, you might try opening it up and looking for a fuse inside. If you find one and it is blown, you should easily be able to find a replacement at your local Radio Shack.

try getting a new ac adaptor maybe the one you have is shorted... otherwise try taking it back in under warranty as a defect.
