Some people aren't, and just swallow every single lie and misconception spoon fed to them by preachers, pastors, and parents. The person who thinks themselves out of the cookie-cutter mindset of the masses has gained enlightenment, as far as I see it, anyway.
So if people weren't philosophical, we would all still be in the stone age because no one though that there could be a better way to live.

People like to think about why things are. The questions of life are just very interesting to some people. Some people don't like thinking, because schools teach us to listen to the answers already written, but there are always people who like to explore all the options. Most people are a little philosophical, which is healthy, but some people are overly philosophical, perhaps because they are nervous, unsure of themselves, obsessive...

For two reasons I believe, 1) because everyone has a belief system concerning things and 2) philosophical persons are those of us who search for wisdom and desire it's attainment

It is a survival trait and thus hard-wired into us as an instinct more or less.
Philosophers want to know the answers, and get at them by asking questions.
They are the people who wonder why their group is getting smaller and smaller as they trek through the jungle. It is the people who don't wonder about such things that get eaten next by the tiger.
