I had a marginal placenta previa. It means the placenta is near the cervix. Basically it expanded up the uterine wall before the baby was born. I might get another doctor though if they didn't do an ultrasound. My biggest fear was I was miscarrying at 5mo.
Blood is never good during pregnancy.

I spotted at 5weeks, then 3 times more.... The last time was 16 weeks and it was a good proper bleed!! Each time I flipped out! I had no cramping or pain, my cervix was closed... All of my blood levels normal and each time baby was ok with heartbeat. The ER docs tried to figure it out to no avail... My OB did all kinds of tests and ultrasounds only to come up with the conclusion that all was well. She explained it just may be "sloughing" or, nothing at all. Unless you have painful cramps, heavy bleeding (enough to fill a pad in an hour) or bleeding with a fever, I would try not to worry. Some women just spot during early pregnancy! If you do have any of the above symptoms return to the ER immediately! I know it's hard but any time I stressed about it, it just got worse! The only thing my OB told me not to do was have sex until 12 weeks. After that when I bled at 16 weeks, I was told not to have sex for 3 weeks. Other then that, just try to take it easy!
Very Best Wishes!

It is probable that nothing is wrong. The sex can cause bleeding, especially if it was vigorous, prolonged, or the first time in a while.
If the bleeding continues for more than a day, gets heavier, contains clots or there is painful cramping I would return to the hospital and demand an exam and ultrasound.
Just try to relax (much easier said than done, i know) and rest and do what you normally do. It is good that you are so concerned about your health and that of your baby.
Best Wishes and Warmest Thoughs

I bled after sex starting at 10 weeks, and was told to abstain, which I did. It ended up being that I had a low lying placenta whch at my 20 week ultrasound was discovered. Sex causes minor contractions, and that can make the placenta tear a little and bleed when it's that low. I would abstain until your 20 weeks ultrasound just in case.

First of all, make sure you have the first available appointment with your Dr. so that they can explain everything to you.
Second of all, I spotted during my first trimester with my first pregnancy and the first question my midwife asked was, "did you have sex recently?" So obviously that is a common enough occurence. So relax.
This probably means you have a sensitive cervix...Ask your dr what you can do to avoid bleeding or other problems.
But take a deep breath, you did the right thing, going to the hospital.

You need to get a second opinion.
Heavy bleeding in pregnancy is not a good sign.
Was there any pain?
Do not have sex again until you know what is going on.

Go to a different doctor!! For the sake of your baby thats not normal any doctor should know that, anyways make sure you see someone more effecient on their job, something could really be wrong even if its not related to your pregnancy!!
