if flows from south to north, not uphill. most other rivers in the world flow from north to south. in america, north to south is going downhill, and in egypt, south to north is going downhill. It just happenes that the southern part of egypt is on higher ground than the northern part. that's just the way it is.
Picture a globe, you have it in front of you. north is up and south is down right? but gravity is pulling "in" towards the center of the globe. it pulls toward the center, not the south.

The Nile is the only big river on Earth that flows from south to north. Most maps are printed so that the writing is right side up when north is up. That does not mean that north is uphill.

Try placing your map on a level table top, and turn it so that north on the map is toward the north star; if you don't know which way is north, ask a grownup to show you. Now your map is lined up correctly, but it's much easier to just turn it any way you choose and just imagine that your are facing north. Don't worry; turning the map upside down won't make all the people fall off of the Earth.

As a matter of normal daily activity, only in two ways. One is when the flowing force of the water is sufficient to move the river up an incline adjacent to the stream, or in the stream (island). The second is when the Mediterranean tide moves a tidal bore up the river course while the volume of the river's output is low.

It cannot travel uphill for long. If downriver rains enough to raise the water level, it can flow uphill to at least the level of that water but no higher.

It doesn't. It flows downhill, just like every other river. The interior of Africa is higher than the Mediteraenean coast of Egypt.

That is why Upper Egypt is the south of Egypt and Lower Egypt is the delta... that used to confuse me in my ancient Egyptian history class.
