Since you're asking in the "Philosophy" section, I'd have to go with Will, as in "The World As Will and Representation", or "The Will to Power".
The only major philosopher named "Max" that comes to mind is Max Stirner, and that's not exactly a recommendation.

I definately prefer Max.
Both are kinda common names, except will is a shorten version of william, and the word will itself feels common.
However,Max is shortened from ???maxamillion?? and therefore the name already has distinction.
Max is memorable yet will is not. Also x is also one of the most interesting letters in the alphabet, where as W,i,l,l are not as cool.
I personally think Max because it is a better word, as well as name :D
but thats my opinion
