Do you think that in the actual society there is freedom? If freedom we call the faulse moral, and the observations of any Big Bother(whatever it is also in national, international level, in every aspect of it)..ah yes, in this case we have freedom...
Where is the freedom when we are all marked even in the passports?Ok, security reasons, in this case i agree. But about the personal data?Everything is comunicated to the rest of the world..
And now we are talking about freedom speech..This is the less my dear..You see in a program of entertainment like this one,i dont speak about people of yahoo, but about some users, the opinion of a person who may defend his country, can be provocative, and directly eliminated by others who maybe they didnt like it..I stopped speaking openly,i really control whatever i say now..But first of all by respect to the program which gives me entertainment and the opportunity to support some people to their answers, and by respect to myself, in orfer not to receive negative comments...
But in general, people who suffer from lack of speech, are those who forbid it to the others..They just juge in a secret way(what i ever call sub aliena umbra latentes)= those who hide themselves under the shadow of the other.Wisdom of latins this...which is valid always...

Freedom of Speech was developed so the government could not silence the voice of the people AGAINST the government, nothing more. You're right when you say people are getting it wrong; they're using it in the wrong context.
Pornography, hate speech, etc are all NOT protected under Freedom of Speech....but the liberal lawyers have figured out that the people are dumb and don't educate themselves so they'll feed you the rhetoric and bs you'll buy into.
My point is validated...look at all these posters saying freedom of speech is the ability to say whatever they want....they're all so misinformed and ignorant!!! No wonder our country is falling apart.

Freedom of speech? what is that?
Some countries have none, the people don't know what it is, so they are not worried.
Some countries have none, people heard about it but they cannot say 'we want freedom of speech'.
Some countries have a little. When people say 'we want more, they lose more'.
Some countries have a lot, but people don't know how to use it.
Some countries have a lot (like the USA?). People know about it and they think (!) they are using it, but actually it is the rich, massmedia that uses that right. Ordinary people speak to themselves and hear it themselves only. Their freedoms and rights are directed, manipulated and controlled by the mass media and the government.

Freedom of speech....
the right to be able to voice an opinion without fear of retribution or censorship, providing the opinion voiced isn't to deliberately incite or be prejudicial against any other groups of people.
Take the hottest potato of the lot - religion.....
do all religous groups properly respect each other, or do they disrespect others with the hope of inciting racial tension and hatred amongst rival religious factions?
This is when freedom of speech goes too far.

I believe freedom of speech is the right to disagree with someone, and voice your opinion about it however you want. however, just because we have the RIGHT, doesn't mean we should. its not against the LAW say cruel things about each other, but it is against our PRINCIPLES, SCRUPLES, and civlization. Its ok if you are just stating your opinion that is different from anothers, but when you are just being plain mean, its wrong. Thats why this law needs to be understood completly. same with freedom of press. samee thing as this, except you are writing it.

We have very censored speech.. If people say what they really want or whats NOT politically correct, people get mad and try to bring up lawsuits and blah blah blah... Whatever though, I still say what I want even though it gets me into trouble from time to time.

freedom of speech to me is the right to speak up whenever we feel and know we are right for the right reason........freedom of speech should be used to protect vaunrables in the society like the poor and disabled etc it should not be abused by wrongdoers.

It means you can say what you want no matter who disagrees. They cannot throw me into prison for saying that George Bush is a moron. At least for now they cannot.... the patriot act is on its way to changing that.
