I was just curious for those moms out there that have already gave birth. Can you tell the difference between gas pains and actual contractions??... I was wondering because sometimes I get gas pains and ive had braxton hicks contractions how will i actually know when to go to the hospital. I am curouis because I want to get the epidural but im afraid I wont be able to tell the difference between gas pains and actual contractions??.. can someone please help me? I just want to know when a good time would be to go to the hospital ( i am almost 39 weeks)

Although gas pains come and go they are not usually much more sporadic than labor pains. When your labor starts you may feel a dull ache that comes and goes but will start to last longer and get more intense. When they start to come more frequently time how far apart they are. Besides when you have gas pains they can usually be alleviated by passing gas labor pains won't stop. Good luck

Contractions will start at the top of your belly and go down. Also you will notice that they are regular. Gas usually is a one time thing. If you still are not sure, start timing....If they are coming every so many minutes go to the hospital just to be safe. Or call your doctor.

ok im 20 just had my baby on may 10th i was 2 days late when i went to my check up i dont know if this made a diffrence in the pain but my obgyn ripped my membrains that hurt well as soon as she did that for 1 day it felt like menstral cramps
2nd day in early morning the pain realy intensified a lot it was every 10 min untill around 8 it got to every 5 min the pain lasts about a min then is gone u can feel them comming
well i waited till my bf came home and finnisherd his paptre work then he noticed my pain
so around 6 evening i went to the hospital i almost came to late for an epidural the pain got so bad i grabed the things ont he side of the bed and screamed the epidural helped a littil not much it took them 2 trys to put it in it is hard to be still in so much pain then after that it will feel horrable untill it feels like u need to poop a few min later they will tell u to push
and trust me i laid there for a while and told every one im not having this baby the nurse finnaly convinced me to push as soon as i did give it ur all forn10 sec intervells at every contration and dont rest just keep it up at every contration and it took me 4 pushes and my baby was out then the pain is over
pss the placenta doesnot hurt to push onces and its out

For me gas pains are a sharp pain that comes suddenly. Labor pains are a dull ache like you get when you hold your mouth open wide for a long time.

Labor get progressively worse, gas continues at the same intensity until you, well, relieve it.
