If you recognize it as gaslighting, you have already countered it. It is only effective if the person being gaslit has no idea someone is messing with them

Whether perpetrated by a political party or a family member, people who gaslight a person (persuade them to doubt their experience, judgment, or sanity), or persuade others to do so (via "triangulation gaslighting"), rarely show recognition or remorse for their behavior. The only solution is lifelong disassociative space multiplied by time; it is generally impossible for those who gaslight to admit they could do something so cruel, as the practice takes on a false reality of its own. Confronting gaslighting and denial within the culture supporting it fuels it; thus, the victim must exit the narrative and join healthier, supportive communitie without narratives and agendas destructive toward them, and which will help them learn to defend themselves and others from this toxic practice.

Do you suspect someone is gaslighting you? If so, now that you know what they are attempting to do, why not turn the tables around on them?

By enlisting in the help of all credible doctors, and close friends and even your colleges for moral support and if need be court appearances to validate the mental status of the person in question. You will have to be strong and sharp witted to turn the tables on the person who is trying to do this.

~Best way to counter it is to consider the source and ignore it. You can't be a doormat unless you choose to lie down first. Better still, subtly reverse it while pretending to by into it. It is ever so much more fun to be the manipulator than the manipulated.
