Of course, just at an appropriate age. The fact is there are many kids living with same-sex parents or are themselves homosexual or questioning their own sexuality. I personally don't believe it's a choice, otherwise why would there be so many suicides? Who wants to get picked on and beat up all the time too? I think the tolerance level would rise if it were out in the open (no pun intended) and discussed more, but this homophobic country with Christian idealist views isn't ready to accept that as a whole yet. I think once science finds evidence to support that homosexuality is not a choice, things will slowly change. People need to stop being scared of things they don't understand.

Yes, because it is a big issue of today. Kids need to be taught to be open minded an accepting of everyone even if they are different. Just like they are taught to be open minded and accepting towards children of other races. Of course I don't think this is going to happen right now b/c the religious fanatics would have a sh** fit. They wouldn't want to have open minded children.

In my experience, it IS being discussed, but in all the wrong ways. Several of my teachers were very homophobic (like many here it seems) and made quite a few insulting remarks (out of context too, if that matters). Those who think that respect should not be taught are kidding themselves, and those who think that sexuality should be kept out of schools are naive or incredibly stupid. Kids are having sex at that age, like it or not. Parents are not doing their job at home to educate children.

I think it should, it would make things easier on those students who are homosexual, they would be better accepted, kids go through a lot these days and if this would make it easier on them then that would be wonderful, people need to be more open minded these days anyway.

yes. They should just discuss the issue when they have an appropiate chance to. Health would be a good class for it. So they can teach not to be ignorent and prejudice

EVERYTHING that is a part of life should be mentioned in schools. Algebra, Charles Dickens, Grecian-Roman sculpture, heterosexuality, homosexuality and auto repair.
The more you know, the more ideas you are exposed to , the better, more interesting person you will become.

Maybe not in a 2nd grade class, but I think around 7th or 8th grade it shouldn't be a problem. Pre-teens and Teens SHOULD be taught about these things. Its a part of life and they should be taught to accept all types of people.

It depends on the age group. I would wait at least until middle school. It would probably be better to wait until late high school or college. If they're going to discuss it, they should hear from both sides, both conservative and liberal. There are intelligent people on both sides.
