My hometown , Shenandoah, Iowa, is known as the SEED AND NURSERY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD (aka flower seeds, garden seeds, vegetables, etc). Also, the EVERLY BROTHERS, a singing duo of the 1960's, were born here (and the house they grew up in is still being used/lived in). We were also a major stop on the routes of the Burlington Northern and Wabash railroad lines (the former ticket depot of Burlington Northern is now the home of the Depot Deli Restaurant). The depot for the Wabash line is a tourist attraction here.
We were founded in 1871 as Shenandoah (after a valley of the same name in Virginia), but prior to that , a communal group connected with the Amana Colonies/ the Amish, had a small area known as MANTI (pronounced man-tie) here. This same area is now a city park.

Judd Nelson (the actor) grew up here.

The first American slave trader executed under the 1820 law was a Portland, Maine, sea captain named Nathaniel Gordon. In 1860, Captain Gordon anchored his Massachusetts-built ship in the Congo River and purchased 897 Africans, paying for them with whiskey. After he reached the Atlantic, his ship was boarded by federal authorities, who seized the vessel and arrested him. The Africans were released, while Gordon was transported to New York City to face trial.

The Great Fire of Portland, Maine occurred on the first Independence Day after the end of the American Civil War on July 4, 1866. Five years before the Great Chicago Fire, this was the greatest fire yet seen in an American city. It started in a boat house on Commercial Street, likely caused by a firecracker or a cigar ash. The fire spread to a lumber yard and on to a sugar house, then spread across the city, eventually burning out on Munjoy Hill in the city's east end. Only two people died in the fire, but 1,800 buildings were burned to the ground making almost 10,000 people homeless. Soon after the fire, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow described his old home town: "Desolation! Desolation! Desolation! It reminds me of Pompeii, the 'sepult city'."

I was born in Toledo, Ohio. I think the most famous aspect of Toledo is Tony Packo's, home of the world's greatest chili sundae. The restaurant was made famous from Klinger in MASH, adn Jamie Farr's LPGA golf event. All types of celebrities have eaten there and signed memorabilia.

Oranges, oranges and oranges. I am from the Orange city in India called Nagpur. It is famous for its oranges. The worlds best oranges are grown here. They are juicy and succulent. You can turn the orange over, stick your thumb in and peel it off to reveal a juicy orange. Separate the slices and remove the threads which come of easily exposing the fruit. Gulp down the entire slice. There is nothing so sweet and satisfying like eating an orange from the "Orange City".

my hometown is a place called Arnstadt in Germany. It is the oldest city in the former Eastern part of Germany, first mentioned in 704 BC. Also the career of musical genius Johan Sebastian Bach took off from here as he got his first job as an organ pipe player in Arnstadt, that was in the early 19th century.

we're not very famous but we've got a building that's actually very close to my house that was George Washington's summer estate during the time he crossed the Delaware River. it's also believed that people were hung at the back and side of the building, but it hasn't been proved.
