Lately when I play games on my computer, it would last for about 5-10 minutes, then my comp would freeze. Even when I press the window button or Alt+Tab, nothing works, my computer just stopped responding. When this happen, I can only shut off my computer the wrong way. This doesn't just happen when I play games, but also when I'm browsing the webs, using other programs in my computer. Just that the comp freezes a lot more often when I play game. Anyone know what is going on?

Well I tried that advice in the first persons answer and all I got was "windows could not find any files named misconfig"...

I personally would suggest clearing out your cashe and compacting old files...
Now I didn't say delete cause that would take forever...
I said compact them to make them all smaller...

However do delete the temporary Internet files from each search or time you get on the net...

There a several reasons why your computer is freezing. Also a bit more information would help to narrow down the problem. But, I will try to cover all the most common reason for computer lockups.

First question is when was the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke.

2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be a the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

3. You have spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected.

4. That last area is a hardware drivers. But I don't think this is your problem because your laptop is not so old. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestion and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing. Hope this helps.

There are a number of things that could cause this, but I would venture a guess that this is a heat related issue based on the fact that it happens at random times and more often while gaming.

Try taking the side panel of the computer off and use some compressed air to blow off the heatsinks on your processor, video card and the inside of your power supply.

you might want to check out your video card and make sure that the game you are playing supports your video card. Also if you do not have a spyware scanner like ad-aware or spyware terminator you should go and download one of them.
You should run a virus scan to make sure you have no viruses on you machine.

Once you have done that hopefully your puter will not freeze.

There may be a virus or some other malicious code involved due to which your system freezes.

One other reason may be excessive number of programs running in the background. You can configure what processes start automatically at startup using msconfig.

Just go to start -> run -> msconfig

a window will pop up and you can follow the instructions on screen.

hope this helps.
