When "Wheel of Fortune" first started back in the 70's, contenstants did not just get money and leave. The would win the equivalent of money, which they then had to immediately use to buy items. Each round had different prizes. For example, if the won a round and had $2000, they might only be able to choose from a "living room" set of items - like couches, TV's, end tables, etc. Whatever was left over was in the form of a gift certificate.

I'm sure this was done to get sponsors for the show. That is, if a furniture store was selling items, they would get their name mentioned on the show, hopefully drawing in customers.

Hope this refreshes your memory. If not, please provide more details.

There were a few like that, but in the 70's I would say Let's Make a Deal. On Let's Make a Deal you had to choose what was in the box or what was behind the door.

It was Let's Make a Deal. They had different doors you could pick from and you never knew what was behind the door.

However, before Wheel of Fortune started giving money away, they gave away prizes instead, so it could be either one of them, except I don't believe Wheel of Fortune was on the 70s. I could be wrong, though.

The Generation Game.
At the end, the prizes went past on a conveyor belt, and the contestant had to remember them all to win them.

Did it have a bunch of people in silly costumes? Try looking in a guide on GSN (Game show network) and see if you find the show you're looking for. I hope that helps.

Good luck!
