It all depends on how they were raised. I knew a couple of kids that apologized for EVERYTHING, even their own opinions. Their mother was a bad mother(alkie/druggie) and in their minds they were always obscenely wrong.

Then there are kids that are raised to believe that they are never wrong(Christians seem to lead this group???) Anyways, they don't know how to say "I'm sorry" without considering themselves to be lessor individuals because of their mistakes so they prefer to act like they always have it right.

'Tis a sad state the union is in, isn't it?

One simple word: "Pride." I am not speaking about having pride in your kids, or a person, or in an accomplishment. That kind of geniune pride or sense of "deep pleasure or satisfaction" is a good thing. I am speaking about stubborn pride. That conceited superiority that can creep into a mind suggesting we are better than, greater than, more important than, or even more qualified than anyone else. This kind of mind set misses out on so much in life, because they will not let go of arrogance. Arrogance unfortunately drives them, and in truth... arrogance is such a thief. Generally people who live unchecked in this arena end up pretty bitter and lonely.

I don't know...I can't stand that! I have NO Problem apologizing...I've got LOTS of experience with that, in fact. I would feel like an idiot if I knew I was in the wrong and didn't apologize.
(It wasn't easy, but just to keep peace, I've also apologized for things that I didn't really feel I needed to apologize for, but hey, if someone has hurt feelings or something and an apology will make them feel better, I'm not gonna deny them that.)

That's because they let their pride and ego get in the way of their better judgement. Once people put their pride and ego to the side then things become a lot more clearer and they can use better judgment and admit that they were wrong and apologize.

I dont have that problem, if I am wrong I am wrong and I will admit it and if it caused distress to a person I would apologize

pride, they refuse to swallow it, even if it would mean the world to someone just to hear them say sorry.....I, on the other hand, have no problem admitting that I'm wrong, cause I usually am, which then is followed by the apology :)

Because it's nice to be right about something, and it makes people feel stupid if they get something wrong! No one likes feeling stupid. And apologizing is admiting you were wrong, so that makes it worse...

cause it doesn't come naturally...its hard to sit down and think about the wrong stuff you've done and then actually go and ambit it someone you've wrong...it takes time, guts and a conscious... some people don't have all =)

It's accepting defeat and people do not like to do that. We do not like to let our guards down, we have to seem strong and at the top of the totem pole.
