I live in a modern house and i get them all the time, they don't do any harm. I just put them outside thats all...
If you are worried you can get the enviromental health to come out and spray the areas if you want to get rid of them, just give your local council a call.

Woodlice are harmless. They thrive in damp, dark conditions. To get rid of them you need to increase the underfloor ventilation. Check that the airbricks are not blocked and that the spaces beneath the floorboards are dry. Once that is done they will move next door!

It is not a known problem having woodlice in one's house, they like to retreat into dark moist places, they are not harmful to buildings, they love under plant pots and under bricks etc.. I get woodlice in my flat sometimes as i am in a bottom floor flat, i just put them out.
They are cute, they remind me of miniature armadillo's :-)

michaelB has it in one!! Wood lice(coffin eaters)live on old celluose as found in rotten wood, they are related to crabs by their DNA You might have a leaking pipe under the floor, sometimes in an old house there is a miniscule leak from lead pipes, so it would be advisable to investigate.

Totaly harmless they live on wood debris, but you some times get a infestation of them, but there is a wood lice killer that will keep them under control.

They like damp places, and eat decaying wood. So check where the are, they may point you to a problem.
