WWYD??
I was at a friend's house yesterday..she is going through some hard times...well her landlord came looking for rent...he was pounding and yelling and ringing the door bell,,we thought it was an emergency because of the hysterical way he did it..when she answered the door he said," I don't care if you have to beg, borrow,or steal the money..
sell or pawn everything you own..I want some money by Sunday!" Then he turns and walks off w/o even giving her a chance to respond...do you think this was out of line? He has a right to be upset, but I think he could have handled it better than going off the deep end and yelling at her..and was he making threats? I want my money Sunday or...or what?? Would he have acted different if her husband had been home?? Just played up the fact that she is a female and he wanted to intimidate her? I personally think he is a ****** for this and would tell him to f off...what would you do???

Simple answer, her problems are not his,he wants the rent money.I think that the only way he feels he can get the due payment is to be stern. No,i don't think there is a threat there,he just wants his money or he needs to find some other tenant who will pay on time.

How far behind the rent is she?
If you care about your friend, tell her to PAY the rent already.
You have to remember that the landlord depends on the rent to sometimes pay the bank on the Mortgage. The mortgage company won't yell at you they will just cut you off!!! He has more to lose than her. I dont mean to be MEAN but she needs to step up or step out.

I feel sorry for your friend.I definitely thinks he took advantage of her because of the simple fact that she is a woman and not a man.He definitely would've acted differently with the husband because he probably knew the husband wouldn't have let him talk to him in that tone of voice. If I was in the position I would go speak to him and explain to him the situation and then reassure him that I would get the money.Tell your friend to tell the landlord how she felt when he was talking to her in a bad manner.

There are no laws in regards to how a landlord talks to a tenant, however, he won't have much of a business if he acts that way often.

Sorry for your friend but why not let her move in for a week or so till she gets on her feet and tell the landlord to kiss off about the rent. Oh, and the security deposit is gone anyway so leave the place a mess....

Well it is a bit hard to say anything not knowing the entire story, she could be way behind on rent and he needs his money to pay his bills just like others need money to pay there bills........

There is a section of Y!A on renting/real estate. People that are actual property owners, that know about leases could answer your question better over there. They would know the LEGALITIES of it.
