I've just discovered Microsoft Outlook background paper, and have changed the plain background to a sky background accordingly. However, my recipients (in Yahoo!) are still seeing the plain background. How can this be? The sky background was there when I typed and sent the message?

go into your preferences in Outlook and see if 'send in plain text' is checked. if it is, uncheck it and make sure that send in 'HTML' is checked.
Your recipients may have the same problem also if they also have 'display as plain text' checked.

the option is there because a lot of virus's come in HTML email and sending, receiving in plain text only prevents it. not so glamorous, but safer.

Because the colored backgrounds are not part of the SMTP standard and are striped off along the way.
