Have you ever seen an Indian or an arab with anyone but an indian or an arab? I've seen beautiful middle eastern women and men who will not venture outside their circle. In West Virginia, that's known as racism. Here, "It's just their way."

Recent immigrants tend to stick together for language and cultural reasons.

By the second generation, both those groups you mentioned freely mix with whites and others. I have had Indian friends who had no other Indians in their immediate circle of friends.

If you are in college, and the people you see are international students, you would be their hero for life if you made an effort to get to know them. Many come here, study for years, and never make an American friend. This is especially tragic since many go on to become leaders and opinion makers later.

As a matter of fact my son's play circle includes the Indian culture, Arab culture, Korean culture, Latino culture, and Chinese culture as well as the white culture. It is a fact that we are all proud of. We are all very good friends and have been together for more than a year. We share our cultural differences and beliefs without any kind of prejudice. It's not fair to assume that other cultures are anymore racist than another. These people may not feel welcome for one reason or another. I know that the newest member of our group is a Muslim Arab women who did not think she would be welcome because of the war. You know, if only people would take the time to stop and say hello with a smile then a lot of misunderstandings would just go away.

I don't know that they are being racist. Granted, I am a little ignorant to those specific cultures, but I guess I've assumed that they just dated those who they were attracted to--which happened to be poeple of their own ethnicity. I have known quite a few Indian men to date outside of their particular culture. By and large, that may not be the case, but I guess I haven't met a middle eastern or Indian who have stated that they specifically won't date outside their ethnicity.
By the way, of course its not ok for anyone to practice intolerance. Why do white people always resort to the statement...."but if white's do it, its racist". Hell yes it is---for anyone.

Hello,

It is not ok and unfortunately there world is full of double standards. Racism is not just a white man's disease so to speak.

I think over the last few centuries most of the writing and fighting for the abolition of slavery came from the western press and media, humanitarians and social philosophers.
In short wrtings have been more prolific regarding the whites than other more obscure cultures.

Double standards and racism are found everywhere and in all peoples. I'm multiracial, so I've had the pleasure of being around three different races and they're all the same: mostly insular with a few interested in getting some forbidden fruit from another kind of tree, if you get me.

I don't think sticking to one's own is practicing intolerance. Intolerance is when someone goes out of their way to degrade someone different from them. I also don't believe your statement/question has any merit. I've seen indians and arabs with all types of different people.

Who told you it was ok for ANY culture to practice intolerance? It's rather close-minded for someone to ONLY wanna date someone within their race, regardless of where they come from.

Well, the whole Honor Killing thing would probably deter me too. I'm sure people would like to date outside their race but they're afraid to.

Don't find reasons to be prejudiced. These aren't really worthy of it.
