No shopping site is safe on the internet. You must look for the "VeriSign", logo, on the webpage that you will use your credit card. If you don't see the "VeriSign", logo, their is a good possibility that your credit card transmission will get into the hands of a criminal.

"VeriSign", is a private security company that has given the webpage their seal of approval, because the company has 100% guarantee that their payment site is secure and your data is encrypted. (The owner of the webpage pays for this seal of guarantee)

Some one mentioned "Pal Pal", they are the very worse for security. Criminals hack them all the time.

I am a shop-o-holic and shop on line all the time. I have never had a problem from ebay or Amazon. The best bet is to you PayPal to pay for your purchases when dealing with a third party seller. Some credit card companies (like Citibank and Discover) let you use a dummy account # for online purchases, and you get a new # every time you make a purchase. Go to their website for more information.

I have used EBAY as a seller and gotten scammed, but have bought and sold over 100 items without any other problems. The security is fine relating to credit card fraud, etc... what you have to be careful of is who you buy from. That can be a problem no matter which site you use, amazon or ebay- it's just a risk you take, and a decision you have to make with some consideration based on feedback.

You are talking about apples vs. oranges here....kind of. With Amazon, although third parties are involved, you are dealing with much more reputable companies. With ebay, you are bidding to buy stuff from people, risking the fact that they could be frauds. Amazon is much better for security, but you will pay full or almost full price where ebay offers a deal in bidding a lower price than retail.
