I am always amazed at a night sky full of stars. The magnitude, the magnificence, and the majesty of it leaves me speechless and awestruck. My wife's eyes cannot focus on the stars, and on a clear night she can only see about a dozen of them. I am looking at thousands, and she can only see 10 or 12. I feel for her, because she doesn't realize what she is missing. I will often get in my truck and drive out away from all street lights, so the stars are the only lights to see. I will park on a hillside or next to the river and lay in the back of my truck and just watch the sky for an hour or more. It is so tranquil and soothing. It is a refreshing that I cannot describe in mortal words. It is a canvas that God repaints each night with the same brushstrokes. It's intriguing because it is both always the same and always new.

Why is the star perceived? Nearly everything which is
perceivable can have some form of impact on life
even if that impact is trivial in effect. The stars seem
even less than trivial because they are so distant
that it makes me wonder what is the significance that
my perception is drawn to them. What purpose do
the stars serve, the sun obviously provides energy(light
and heat), but what about the stars which do not
provide energy significant to measure. Sure people
will argue that the stars effect the orbit of our planet,
but even so, why would I need to see them if they
carry out this process without human involvement.
Therefore, the stars must call into question the relevance
of some perception because other perceived
objects might be just as elusive.

...that I am but a tiny speck of molecule in the myriads of intrinsic pigmentation that made up the bright and vibrant colors on a God's divine and infinite canvas.....
...how much more that is out there undiscovered and flung far beyond the intellectual and technological reach of human beings hampered down by so many physical limitations...
...and how can such beauty and wonder be merely a by-product of a natural and universal cosmic coincidence, and not a part of a grand design…?
Well, for me, at least. Everyone has a right to their respective perception of things. These are but my own humble opinion and thoughts. My own internal wonderment...

Sometimes I feel lonely and insignificant because I realize that there is so much more out there than this world and all of our petty little problems. Each time I look I also realize how small we really are and get to wonder about how and why we are here. Sometimes though, I makes me happy to know that we won't know everything no matter how long humans last and that though the world may be going to hell, there is always something there that will never disappear.

I wonder who else out there is looking at the same stars I am, which planets are which, what I will grow up to be, how beautiful the sky is when I'm not in the city. A lot of things. I've never really thought about what I think about before, though.

Wishful thinking. Because they shine so bright above us all, you just can't help put see hope in them! I don't know why I'm saying this on Y!A, but I every time I see a star I stream everything out as a wish, thought or even a prayer...I don't know how to call it. My last thought to a shining star was to bestow everything that I have to the other unlucky people in the world. Maybe then my guilt will lessen! :-)
Really loved this question. I would have never thought someone would ask that! Thank you very much! :-)

Last summer my family and I were up at Lake Superior. One evening, coming back from the "beach" the sky was beckoning me. I mounted the stairs to the wrap around porch, then I laid down on my back. The sky was so full of stars I swear I cried. I just laid there and stared for like, half hour.
I don't wonder when I am faced with that majesty- except maybe wondering why a God so huge and AMAZING would love ME!!!!! Mostly I just worship Him and pray.

I like to think that there is somewhere that has not yet been touched or affected by us. And the posibility that something else is out there thinking the same.
Because there's no God (read Richard Dawkin's God Delusion if you are sceptical) , it's satisfying to know that we have got this far ourselves through a remarkable chain of events and not designed by some superior being - the existence of which would be even more remarkable.
We are amazing.

Actually, I don't really wonder anything when gazing at the stars. I generally just enjoy the view and let my mind drift and relax. I'm simply, peacefully looking at the beauty of the dark sky, moon and stars...no specific thoughts come to mind when star gazing.

Happy thoughts. I wonder if a certain yellow star is really Jupiter and if the stars I see now disappeared a long time ago.
