Ginn Jr. from Ohio State will add that much needed deep threat to the Miami Dolphins. This is a team that in the past couple seasons, have relied on Marty Booker who has played very well, yet he has not played a full season in at least the past two (due to injuries), and also Chris Chambers who is a good receiver one week and not the next (very inconsistent). Now that the Dolphins have ended up with Trent Green, Ginn will become a household name by the end of the year. He is the fastest player (during game, not in 40 times) to come out of the draft this year. If Miami's QB can get him the ball, exciting things will happen in Miami, just as they did at Ohio State.
In a couple of seasons, I believe Miami's second pick, Josh Beck will show a large impact. It's to soon to start him now, but after a couple seasons of learning, look out. This guy broke college records at BYU that were once held by Jim McMahon, Ty Detmer, and Steve Young. Let's hope he can follow in there footsteps. As for him being the next Marino, I'm not sure that Beck will ever be a Marino, yet I think he will be a good solid, starting, NFL quarterback. Green will be a good coach for Beck, while he stands on the sidelines holding a clipboard, and learning the game, to become the best quarterback in Miami, since the retirement of Dan Marino.

I think Beck could turn out to make a great NFL QB and the Dolphins came away with a steal getting him the second time around. Easily worth passing up Brady Quinn as early as they did since they came away with Beck. That being said, you never know what might happen with an NFL QB. Sometimes they start out hot and never get the magic back. Other times injuries ruin what could've been great careers. Other times they just never got it together to begin with. I think Trent will make a decent fill-in for a year or two, and there are few QB's in training I'd rather have as my backup. Beck should probably turn out to be a starting QB in the league for years to come, but very few will ever play at Marino's level.

I am definitely on the same page- Trent Green isn't the answer though. Although not as serious, its the same story different player. He came in old and recovering from injury (sound like anyone else you know???) and I give him credit- he was good in his day but I think he is on the downfall of his career. John Beck looked pretty good at mini-camp- he had a strong arm but looked a little shaky in the pocket. But for just coming into the NFL and learning a new game, he did very well. Cleo Lemon has been sitting bench for a while, was given his time and didn't shine as he should have. I don't think Ted Ginn will be as explosive as say Devin Hester, coming straight out of college, but I think he will help the special teams and offense. Just no end zone celebrations for him!!

Theoron is absolutley right - there is no next Marino. Trent is going to be great in that offensive system and will be a great guy for Beck to learn under. Beck is certainly the QB of the future for the Dolphins, but its going to take some time for him to become a good NFL QB. To expect him to be as good as Marino was when he came out of college is to expect too much.

I agree with Kansacity88, there will be no next Marino, and the best prospect is Brian Brohms. I was thinking the same thing. Brohms is big, but not too big, around 214-220lbs, right, and has a snappy arm and is fiery. Wherever Brohms goes, I think he will do well, and have a Marino'ish quality. But no one can predict what can happen, what Dan did was storybook. I was watching some of his throws on the www.MiamiDolphins.com annual highlights in '83, WOW! You can say what you want about Favre and Manning, but Marino threw 35yd. passes with the flick of his wrist in between 2-3 defenders. It isn't just the stats, but the pure quality and speed of the throw and release. Hell, from what I read about Manning, he is a friend of Marino's, and probably learned from the guy himself to break his own records, I bet that is what really happened.

Who will be the next Marino for the Dolphins? The next guy with the last name of Marino who gets signed by the Dolphins.
Everyone always asks who will be the next "(insert name of all-star/hall of fame player)?" Yet hardly any player actually pans out to be like whoever they get compared to. Even the great players leave their own mark onm the game. I think you are looking for the next QB who will lead your team in the right direction.
In that case evidently the Dolphins think bringing in a veteran quarterback who knows the AFC will can only help John Beck learn the ropes as well as giving him some competition instead of throwing him to the wolves before they believe he's ready.

John Beck because he reminds me of dan marino and trent green isn't gonna save them John Beck will. Ted Ginn Jr. will be a good receiver and a Kick and Punt returner but not better than Devin Hester. Ginn is going to be the 3rd WR in the Dolphins with Marty Booker and Chirs Chambers. He will not be as explosive as he was in college because these are the pro's your talking about not college but you never know

Quite simply....there wont EVER be another. The next closest is not anyone thats in the pros yet, in my honest opinion. But if you want some ideas...here are a few:
Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville - simply because he is a heady type of player and knows how to win. Probably threw as much as Marino did in college (maybe not for as many yards) but will be a more polished prospect coming out.
Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii - On the verge of breaking the all-time yardage mark. May not transistion well to the NFL game because of the offense they run at Hawaii (spread/run-and-shoot) but has the measurables and the arm.
Brian Anderson, QB, Marshall - Probably one of the best you havent heard of yet. Great measurables and nice arm. Good enough to make all the throws in the NFL. Needs to play and get seasoning though. Lookout for him this year!
Adam Bednarik, QB, West Virginia - May not have the status yet but certainly has the bloodlines. Dont hear too much from Adam yet, as he is buried behind Heisman candidate Pat White, but give hime time. Has the measurables but may not be able to flourish running the option as much as he may have to in Rich Rodriguez's offense.
*Wildcard* - Ricky Santos, QB, New Hampshire - I say wildcard because he has played against lower tier competition (Division 1AA) but that doesnt always translate to inferior talent. Numerous players play down a level but get to the NFL and act as though they were meant to play there all along. Has the stats and size but will have to prove himself.
Those are just a few but many on here could find more. Out of those I would say Brohm and possibly Anderson could fit the bill as they seem to be more pocket type passers and both have a quick release...not as quick as Marino's though but pretty darn close!!

Miami fans: Dan Marino is a once-in-a-generation QB. There IS no "next Marino". You guys had it unbelievably good with him there, and to put the expectations on any other young prospect that comes along to be as good as Marino is just crazy. Questions like that lead me to believe that Dolphin fans truly did not appreciate what a special talent Dan was!

Remember that John Beck is a bit older than the average rookie, so his ceiling may be lower than some. He is a decent quarterback, but the next Marino he is not. John Beck can be solid with a good running game not unlike Bob Griese, but the team will have to develop around him quickly.
