I think that saving the life of a stranger is an automatic human response, because we are actually all connected to each other and we are empathetic beings. Perhaps it is instinctual though.
I'd hate to be tested personally! Your question is not, would I RISK my life, but would I GIVE my life! As if you are asking me right at this moment, "Excuse me ma'am, would you like to give your life for a group of complete strangers?"
Gosh, I don't know if I would!

I risked my life
to save someone I loved
and I was 14 or 15
so there
and in New York some guy risked his life for a complete stranger

yes, and I would have to think twice on it either, it would be my first reaction to get in and do something now and not worry if I make it or not..as long as the others are safe.
