I took the shot in December, after four years of taking the pill on and off. I was supposed to get re-shot in late March but decided not to because it caused some funny side effects. Instead of spotting when I was supposed to have my period, it was really heavy for an abnormally long time. It's been since late March and I still haven't had a real period (nope, not pregnant, have checked MULTIPLE times). I want to get back on the pill, but I'm afraid my hormones are out of whack. My gyn. retired and I moved to a different state, so I don't have a doctor to call yet.

HELP??

Hi LYMI
What you experienced with the shot is not an unusual story. It happens quite frequently and that's the reason it has not been very popular.
A shot in Dec that is 6 months back has definitely lead to disturbace in your hormonal cyclical pattern. Do not worry it will come back to normal soon.
My suggestion is you start a pill say 'Novelon' (30 mcg of estrogen), take one pill a day for next 10-12 days and stop. It will lead to a withdrawal bleeding. Cosider it to be your periods. Now you are off to pill of your choice.

The pill will help bring your hormones back IN whack.

I was on depo (aka HELL) for four years till I heard about all the nastiness that it brings through your system.

I am on Kariva (pill) now and a LOT happier. No side affects and my periods came back after my second or third pill pack. I have been on this for a little over a year now.

you need to find a new gyn. in your new location! The shot or pills will mess up your periods, especially if your taking them eratically.
