I have both because I need both.

I do my major work on my desk top, and have my laptop for presentations and minor traveling work.

Laptops are good for the obvious fact of being portable and have battery backup. Desktops on the other hand, can be upgraded much easier, Also with some laptops the battery life can lessen over time. And with laptops being portable, wear and tear within connection ports etc can cause problems over time. I guess it depends on what your looking to get out of a computer which is best for you.

Depending on what you plan on doing would help you decide your answer. Laptops are mostly more expensive but they allow you to travel with them. The problem with laptops is that upgrading them is limited. They only have a certain amount of memory slots, and usually everything is integrated on the motherboard. With desktops, they tend to be faster, beefier, and easier to upgrade.

It depends. Do you want to take your computer with you to a lot of places like college, work, etc? If so, laptop. Do you want a lot of storage space and won't be taking your computer to multiple places? Then desktop. I have a laptop, as I use it for college and whatnot. What your question is is asking for opinion-based answers.

You can get the same abilities in either one.
Laptop pros: you can take it with you.
Laptop cons: easily overheated; hard to find a REALLY large screen, if you're a graphics designer; limited in its ability to hook up a BUNCH of other hardware if you're a hardware collector...

Desktop pros and cons: opposite of laptop.

We had a desktop, and turned around and chose a wide-screen laptop for all these reasons. All we have to hook up is a printer. We're not PRO graphics designers. We take the laptop with us. We're not overheaters. We got top-of-the-line wireless-equipped laps (very convenient for travels).

But if yer a gamer or a pro graphics handler, remember that giant screen for a desktop? (Likely, see other answers...)

Take yer pick from all that.

In my opinion, a laptop. They're cheaper and you can take then around with you. Desktops on the other hand have be kept in the same place for ever... :-)

There's no real way of answering that. It's all a matter of opinion. I "personally" like using my laptop. For the simple reason of it's portability. However. I don't like using the mousepad on the laptop.. So, I bring along a regular USB mouse. Since it makes my life that much easier.

Well, you can take a laptop with you and it can serve as your main computer so I would say a Laptop. Still, each has its pros and cons. You should read up on the tech specs on either one and make a good choice.

Desktop hands down. MUCH easier to upgrade and repair... dont have to send it somewhere. Much cheaper to do so as well.

If you dont NEED to have mobility then a desktop is what you want.
