I'm 14 weeks pregnant and I found out only 2 weeks ago. When I found out I stopped drinking diet coke, but it's really taking a toll on me. I really want to have one. Is it ok in moderation, or should I really push on and not touch it?

My care provider told me that one caffeine drink a day won't hurt the baby. The only think she said was to be careful not to drink other caffeinated drinks throughout the day. For example, if you have a cup of coffee in the morning, don't drink anymore drinks with caffeine later that day.

It is ok in EXTREME moderation. But do your best to not drink any soda unless its non carmelized like Sprite, or 7-up. You should drink lots of calcium, water, and juices in replacement of diet soda. By the way, Congradulations on becoming a mommy!
You should ask your doctor about this, but I heard that its ok for pregnant women past a certain point in pregnancy to have one glass of red wine.
Make sure you are eating good foods; fruits, veggies, and some red meat. Poultry and Fish are always great too! Steam or broil, don't fry!
But the diet coke issue you should be ok within moderation and remember, dont drink an entire 12 pack a day.

It's OKAY in moderation. Artifical sweetners should be used only a few times a day (that includes any other drinks or food containing them) and caffine (particularly in the first 6 months) should be limited to 2-3 servings a day (keep in mind there is caffine in soda, coffee, tea, engery drinks, and even chocolate).

I switched to caffine free diet coke and enjoyed maybe one a day.

They say it isn't good. But I couldn't give them up nor the caffiene I tried for two weeks and the head aches were horrible!!!! I mean, can't get out of bed bad. So I limited myself to 1/2 caf coffee in the am and 1 diet coke at lunch while PG sometimes 1 at night and juice or water in between. My girl came out ok, she'll be 4 months next week and seems to be hitting all her milestones on time or sooner. No tummy problem, nothing.

When I got pregant I had to attend a nutrition and fitness class beacuse I'm in the military and its required. The lady there said although they tell pregnant women to try and avoid caffeine, there is no harm in having 1 soda a day or every other day. My husband on the other hand wants me to drink lots of juice and water because he says its better for the baby and he doesnt want a hyper baby (yes its cute, and I'm glad he cares but sometimes you want to drink something besides juice or water) so I've found a compromise.. I found some Stewarts old fashion grape soda in the bottles. Its caffeine free, but it still is sweet and yummy.

Well, caffiene isn't good so rather then diet coke, get caffiene free. Or try diet caffiene free, it tastes a little flat but it should cure your craving. My mother drank over a liter of regular coke when she was pregnant and my brothers and I turned out fine. Not saying you should do that, but moderation is fine just be careful.

But to be absolutely safe ask your doctor.

I still drink a handful of cokes a day. My doctor says it's fine, that depending on the soda, each has somewhere between 35-50mg of caffene. She's told me it's perfectly fine to have u pto 300mg a day. Right now I drink around 4 a day, but I'll admit to having 5 some days.

My nurse told me to give it up period. But I've read tons of articles about how the sweetner in Equal is safe (that's what's in diet coke).
So as a compromise, I'm drinking one can of diet coke with Splenda (totally safe as it's made from sugar) per day.

Caffiene in moderation is ok. You can have up to 300 mg a day safely. Try to avoid it if you can, but a diet coke every couple days won't hurt the baby.

Aspartame, the sweetner in most diet drinks, is not good for pregnancy. Most doctors recommend avoiding it as much as possible. Just go for the regular sodas. It's extra calories, but your body needs calories to help grow your baby. Just do it in moderation.

Edited to add: Caffeine in sodas are not a problem. Sodas have only small amounts of caffeine when compared to coffee or tea. It's the aspartame in diet sodas that's the problem.
