It depends what you want.
The maksutov will have higher magnification and will be better for looking at the moon, planets and splitting double stars that are close together,
The short tube reflectors will have lower magnification but be better for star cluster, nebulae and galaxies.
I think you will do well if you stick with a name brand like Meade, Celestron or Orion.

No, it's a complete piece of junk. Don't buy a telescope from eBay unless you really know what you're doing. Buy from a legitimate telescope store, either local (look in the Yellow Pages) or online. I've had good experiences for years with Orion Telescopes and Binoculars. In particular, I recommend their Dobsonian reflectors for people starting out in astronomy:

Most of what you're asking can't be answered because Newtonian, Maksutov, and Cassegrain are _types_ of telescopes, made by many different manufacturers, some good, some bad. Check out the two articles listed below for some good information on telescope buying.

I've only heard one thing about Baytronix and it wasn't good.
You want a Celestron, Meade, Orion, or Zhummell, and it should probably be a newtonian, dobsonian newtonian, Schmidt Newtonian, or Schmidt Cassegrain if you can afford it. I wouldn't get a Maksutov-Cassegrain for many reasons.
You don't have to limit yourself to eBay because you don't have a credit card. Some online telescope dealers will accept money orders and even PayPal. You should always call and discuss the matter with them. You also might be able to find someone with a credit card who will order the telescope for you, as long as you pay them the cash.
Here are websites to locate dealers in the US and Canada

Those cheap (~US$100) Chinese-made short-tube reflectors are not worth it.
They are cheap because they use spherical mirrors (instead of parabolic) and use a corrective lense at the base of the focusing tube.
I made the mistake of getting one of those, and I ended up re-building it.
Stick with a "brand" name (as mentioned above in the other answers).
