The Kennedy clan.John K. Kennedy and his wife, the intelligent, poised Jacqueline Kennedy, and the entire family, were considered the closest thing to Royalty in America. They had power(President, Ambassador,Senator),
money(billions),
sophistication(Jackie
and her sister,Princess Lee Radziwill
were well-educated,
well-traveled,well-mannered;
they oozed that thing called "class") .

The Vanderbilts,Astors,Whitneys,
Rockefellers,Paleys
all old money families...

And don't forget that many people consider Hollywood stars royalty(but,I don't,because so many of them just don't have that elegance, elan, education,
intelligence...that thing called "class").

Even more than the Kennedys, although not as glamorous, the Roosevelts came nearer being American royalty:
1) Eleanor and Franklin were distant cousins--just like Elizabeth II and Phillip.
2) Eleanor's Uncle Teddy was President a generation before Franklin.
3) The Roosevelts were "old money"; the Kennedys were "nouveau riche".

Remember, the public definitely did not consider the British Royal family glamorous until Lady Diana Spencer came along in 1981.

Screw that!

This question is evidence of one of the underlying problems in America.
There was a time when the working man was supposed to be the glorified one. The Kennedy's, Rockefeller's, Jolie's, and the rest can go the Hell-being an attention seek money loving elitist does not make you royalty.

My grandmother used to invoke the Kennedy's & Rockefeller's everytime someone spilt sugar on the table. "Who do you think you are a (Kennedy/Rockefeller)? We work in this house!"
