If you look at F1 over just about any 10 year period, and compare it to 10 years earlier, you'll find that the sport is constantly reinventing itself to one degree on another. >Formula One racing used to be about the most skilled drivers... It still is what it was. First, given the limited number of open spots and the pay and prestige, they will attract the top drivers. And it is, as it always has been, about the best and most reliable technology. Be it 1958 or 2008, being the fastest car on the track for half a race doesn't get a championship or a win. And while there are many examples of great drivers doing something amazing with inferior cars you'll find they did not win regular or certainly win championships while driving these cars - same then as today. You say to bring back equal speed and reliability? Strange, what you really seem to be complaining about is the direct result that the current generation of cars ARE so equal and reliable. If there were greater differences in speed, and situational speed, and a enough failures... well, in the end, you'd see much different championship. And not exactly a better one, just a very different one (be careful what you wish for).

Who knows? Sure, it would be nice to see a rookie win the championship.....but as everyone else has pointed out, F1 can be very unpredictable.
I think the main thing we should look at is that this season is at least interesting. Something F1 has failed to be for a while.
Whatever the outcome, be it Alonso, Hamilton, or, some how for some completely unknown reason (probably a rift in the space time continuum)............Takuma Sato, as long as it stays interesting anyone can win it this season and I'll be happy.

Why is everybody jumping to conclusions so soon? It's only been 6 races out of 18, and you`re already crowning Hamilton? I think everyone will agree that Hamilton is no Schumacher. And just who was the only driver to win two WDC's in a row in the Schumacher era? Mmm, let me think, duh! Hamilton has won one race, not even a championship. And, yes, expertise does matter in F1. 6 races, Jeez!

He is at the top of teh standings. But Massa and Alonso can still catch up with him. So can Kimi. If Hamilton just has a DNF it would be enough

He's got as good a chance to win the WDC as Alonso or Massa.

The second half of the season will tell.

He is already at the top, or certainly high enough to be among the top. It remains to be seen if he can stay there.
