um, so I had to go buy a new power supply, and now it doesn't shut itself off....but the monitor shows nothing. before anyone says anything, it IS plugged in. everything is plugged up correctly. there's 2 red lights coming out of the video card right next to where it plugs in (it's an ati radeon x1900 btw) and I think there might be something wrong w/ it, but also what might be the problem is that according to the light on the front of the case, the hard drive is being constantly accessed while it's on (orange light is on from the time I turn it on, had this problem when it shut itself down too) I really don't know what to do and really need help. PLEASE HELP ME. if there's anything I can do w/o buying more crap please do tell 'cause I can't spend anymore money right now!!

Based on what you are saying, it doesn't sound to me like the computer is booting at all. If all that happens is the lights come on but just hang you aren't starting the boot process.

This can be caused by all sorts of things! From a slightly unplugged card, a bad USB device, a bad plug connection, bad ram, bad video card etc. If I had it I would

1.remove all external connections with the exception of video, keyboard, and mouse. Try it and see if it works.

2. If that failed. I would unplug every connector and every card inside the machine. ALL OF THEM. Then start by reinstalling power connections and video card. Without any harddrives or other devices Try it and see if the video comes on. If not you are down to RAM, Video card, CPU, motherboard.

Since you just replaced the power supply I suspect you had a failure which may have caused the old one to quit. If that is the case you may have other damaged components which need repair.

You may need professional service if you aren't really proficent so ask around for someone who has built machines from scratch. Usually there is someone near who has done this. They will be able to come SEE and help. This is an experience issue and not one for those who dont have that experiance.
