Get them direct from the software Co websites for latest versions, and they ARE GOOD .
I'd reccomend these 2, run each in turn
ADAWARE fro www.lavasoftusa.com (Free personal version)
also SPYBOT S&D from www.spybot.org (Again free for home use)
Also worth having in toolbox is CCLEANER from www.ccleaner.com again a free download, and a good general windows tidyup utility.

Adaware is very good. It is also ranked high by many users. Check out www.cnet.com - download section. You will be able to judge for yourself. Later, Strawman

that's all free stuff and well, uh you get what you pay for. it's not like you're nasa or anything, but i wouldn't rely on any of that stuff for protection.
try googling "top 10 antivirus"
i've tried about everything. right now i'm using trendmicro's pc-cillin. bit defender, kaspersky, panda, etc are pretty nice too. just depends on how bloated (memory/cpu usage) you're willing to go. most of all these have an internet security suite that covers all fronts of virus, spyware, firewall, and spam type stuff.

It is a personal preference. I use AOL's spyware and virus scanner.
