Merriman can do it! Last year he managed to get 17 sacks in 12 games which would put him on pace to tie the record in 16 games. Because the defense can shut down the run so well, people will have to pass on them and not only will Merriman get the record but the chargers will continue to be the sack leader for many years to come! That can mean only one thing.... LIGHTS OUTS!!!!

No. Because he can't take his roid juice anymore. Shawne Merriman is overrated. He won't get anywhere close to Strahans records because NFL offenses have already figured him out. He had a great year last year, no doubt, but in order for him to break Strahan's record, he will have to break LAWRENCE TAYLOR'S sack record!

Shawne Merriman is nowhere close to the real LT or Michael Strahan. Just being real.

merriman will break it. strahan's record should have a little asterik next to it. one of those sacks was a freebie from favre. the pats didn't shut down merriman in the playoffs, the coaches did. merriman was dropping back into coverage most of the game, not blitzing like he should have.
-LaDainian is the real LT. it's his frickin' initials. giants fans need to get off of this "the real LT s-h-i-t". i could see if his nickname was sweetness, then you can say the real sweetness. it's just initials.

Well he got 17 last year and missed games...sure the steroid thing will be brought up...but he looked just as good after the suspension as he did before it...that's not really a valid argument against him. Will it break the record....Uhh maybe, if the Chargers defense keeps sending him on the blitz I see no reason to rule it out, he was only...what 5 off of the single season record? He could break that if he keeps up the pace.

yes, merriman will break the record. and he isnt a 'roid boy', he has been tested 20 times and tested positive ONCE, during the offseason. i believe it was a tainted supplement, he knew he was gonna be tested, he had been tested many times before, why would he take steroids?
and yes, i believe merriman will break the record. 17 sacks in 12 games is incredible. imagine what he will do in 16 games, he has never played a 16 game season yet. even with the O trying to focus on him, shaun phillips(11 sacks) will be enough of a distraction to keep the offense honest. i cant wait to see what he will do.

I doubt it. It was surprising how he disappeared during the playoff game against the Pats. He was a non-factor that entire game. The NFL is a copy cat league, you just got to know other teams are looking at what the Pats did to Merriman in that playoff game and will try to duplicate it. Plus how effective will he be without his 'supplements'?

Not a roid monster like Merriman, but maybe his counter part Osi.

I dont think a LB can put up sack numbers like a defensive end. He's gonna have to do a lot of blitzing.

If its not Merriman then Philips will, if not him then it will be Castillo, if not him either then definitely Cromartie.
