At least we have kids and don't kill them off.

Umm..... well, parenting like that is not necessarily the characteristic of a conservative; my parents were painstakingly liberal and I had an 8-o'clock bedtime and keep my room clean. That's just parents trying to teach their kids responsibility so they don't become slobs when they move out and live on their own.
I see where you're coming from with the "control freaks" argument, though. The vast majority of conservatives are strong Christian believers, and while I don't defer the practice itself, I DO defer some of its followers that think they have the right to push their ways off on everyone else and try to tell them they HAVE to live a certain way because the Bible says so. Wake up and smell the coffee; not everyone PRACTICES Christianity. How would these people feel if a group of Buddhists came to this country and tried to get everyone to practice Buddhist ways?
I've always said that liberals uphold the Constitution; conservatives uphold the Commandments. We all know how some of them can be; THEY don't believe in gay marriage and abortion and pro-choice ideals, so they don't think ANYONE should believe in these ideals. That's why I don't think we should have a conservative in political office; they try to force their own ideals off on everyone else.

What ? You want children to run wild in the streets with dirty rooms and no supervision? How does that make us better? If you disrespect your boss go get another job and if you want anarchy in the American home have your own kids and let them go. My child was reared with morals and values and the ability to be a self actuating individual. He was allowed to speak his mind as long as he wasn't beligerant and I listened and at times changed my mind on what I had been thinking. I don't think I reared a robot and I hope other parents in this country will be responsible for the kind of Americans they rear. That's hardly conservative, that's being aware of what this child will be faced with in the furture and installing a good work ethic and respect for the law. Try that you'll like it!

Wait just one goggone moment, there. Conservatives are control freaks? Is it conservatives that are telling us where we can and cannot smoke? Is it conservatives that are telling us what to eat? Is it conservatives that are telling us what we have to do with our garbage? Is it conservatives that won't let people develop there own property? Is it conservatives that are telling us when and where to pray? Is it conservatives that are telling us what kind of car to drive? Is it conservatives that are telling us how much our kids should weigh? Is it conservatives that want to limit free speech through the "Fairness Doctrine"? Is it conservatives that are dictating what kind of baseball bats our kids can use? Is it conservatives that tell us we must wear a bicycle helmet? Is it conservatives who want to tax away our money? Is it the conservatives that are telling our kids about all kinds of sexual perversions despite the parents wishes?
The liberals want to control every aspect of every part of our lives from the cradle to the grave.

Let me put a few things together and maybe we can understand the mindset of the political conservative..not the true conservative, but the modern day political conservative.
Religion is a tool to control societies correct? Correct. The more you control freedoms, like thinking for example, the more you control the society. The more control you have the more money you can make. It is really simple logic if you step back and look at the ideals behind it.

I must be an exception. Had my kids, did church until they became misogynistic and political. I don't think I've ever been a conservative. As far as clean your room and respect the household I just see this as learning one of the many facets of life. There are Universal Laws and I think a clean room may be one of them

Awwwwww.. Now you're making me feel badly. Honestly, when my daughter was growing up, her friends thought I was 'cool' because I could relate with them. Today, at the age of 30, she's also my best friend.
I don't believe that we're any different than most parents. I have friends who are staunch democrats who were much stricter than I was.
My daughter sailed through college, has no children, is a career gal who lives a great life. :)

Brian's never heard of Conservative indoctrination? LMAO...
It's called "Catholicism", Brian, and it pertains to 1/4 of the adult population in the U.S.
=P
Edit: Both sides of the spectrum want to control us. Sure, liberals have their smoking bans and seat-belt laws, but conservatives have their drug war and gay marriage bans.
Bottom line: When legislation is based on morality, or if it aims to force people into using better judgment, you are telling someone else how to live their life. Both major parties are plenty guilty of this.

It just seems that way to the generally disorganized, slovenly, self-absorbed and slothful types for whom concepts such as hard work, responsibility, discipline and values (not to mention, in my experience, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and deodorant) are anathema.
To one who is an eternal child, anyone with some maturity seems like an adult talking to a child.

Liberals want to control everything in your life by the use of government. They want to control what you eat, what you drive, where you smoke, what we teach, etc. And then complain about conservatives want to do this and want to do that. Conservatives want Liberals and their buddies in Government to stop legislating every nit picky thing in life.
