I agree that many umpires are on a power trip, just itching to use their authority and eject someone or at least overturn a call on a techicality or something. I've been to many umpire training clinics where long time umps sit around and brag about all the people they've ejected over the years. personally I am appauled and a little ashamed to say I'm an umpire.
However, regardless of the umpire's motives what you said was inappropriate and did question the integrity of the umpire, therefore you have nobody to blame but yourself for being ejected, if that was all that happened then he probably should have let it go, but he did have the right to throw you out.
Be careful how you treat umpires, many little leagues around the country are really struggling to find umpires, many of them are volunteers but when they get bad mouthed and insulted they quit doing it, leagues end up having to pay umpires which results in higher league fees. many of the paid umpires are there for the money so they are more likely to just call everything an out so they can go home sooner, or they are the power hungery umps that love exercising their authority by being quick to eject people.
I've played baseball and softball for 18 years and I can only remember 1 game where I thought the umpire was perfect on every call, umpires are human too, mistakes are made but its part of the game. worry about your playing or coaching and keep your mouth shut.

Not only are batteries easy to conceal, but many fans bring radios to the game to listen to the broadcasts, and thus batteries are even more readily available. Having said that, throwing anything harder than a "Yo' Mama" insult at a player is wrong and should result in immediate ejection from a stadium. A second such offense should result in permanent banishment, including revoking of season tickets if the perpetrator has them. Yo' Mama's so dumb, she roots for the Mets! Yo' Mama's so fat, David Ortiz told her she should go on a diet! Yo' Mama's so country, she still thinks the Braves were the Team of the '90s! (Can you guess which team I root for?)

That was a bush league thing and probably trying to show his authority by tossing you.
What you said was grounds for dismissal under unsportsmanlike conduct but wasn't enough for me to toss you.
I'm an umpire, and I would have given you a warning first and not just tossed you.
By his remark to you, he was just looking for any response from you to toss you out of the game.
What you said may in hind site not have been wrong but got under his skin and he was looking for some reason to give you the heav-ho.
Sorry but you gave it to him and he tossed you.
To be an umpire you have to have thick skin but when you cross the line it's a warning, then see ya; from me that is.
He must of been having a bad game and this was his way of getting even in his eyes.
To bad; especially for the kids.

No, that just sounds like an ump who was looking for an excuse to make himself the center of attention. I can see him questioning your first response, but there's no way he should have thrown you out after you explained it. Had you been combative or said, "Yes, I am," then I could understand, but this is just an ump who overstepped his bounds.
I see a lot of this at all levels of baseball - the umps too often want to be the show.

it depends on the age of the players on your team. if the kids you were coaching were under high school age, then teaching them to question the umpire on any call they don't like is inappropriate. if they are already in high school or older then they are alreday thinking it anyway and it's no big deal. either way, the ump has still got to be pretty touchy to throw you out for that.

some umpires love being mean , rude and arrogant. obviousily this particular umpire is one of them. there was no reason for you to get thrown out of the game.

no, that umpire is probably a huge asshole who has nothing to do. Hence he is umpiring baseball games.
